➏ a “morning after” letter
Dear Naoto,
It was foolish of me to think I can stay long out here. This has been my mistake and I apologize for the rudeness of leaving you with only a letter. In any case, should you wish to make a case out of it, you know where to find me.
It was a surprise to see you again Naoto, though I can’t ascertain if that is a good course of action on your part or not. I had thought you had forgotten all about me. Us. The entire secret base. Though that leads me to a question I didn’t dare ask last night; why?
Why did you bring me back? Why even come for me? Are you so dense as to not know the extent of the damage you had done to us?
But perhaps I’m out of line for asking, or entertaining the thought. We no longer know what you do with yourself or how your days go. We most certainly cannot fathom as to why you would stop coming by. We, that is to say, Kage and I. We have learned to adapt without you. We have to. It is no longer necessary for you to visit us regular. Knowing our tempers, it’s probably best you don’t least either one of us leashes out at you.
Last night had been … fun. Enjoyable, as long as I don’t think about it. It was a good parting memory, at least. It’s probably why I end up writing this letter, since it most certainly will sour the memory.
I hope you enjoy what you do. Have a good life.
