From this point will Klaus & Caroline remain enemies? I am really interested in seeing how Caroline's plans will go from now on since she is working with Mikael her brothers and Montavaro. Cause i get why she considers Klaus an enemy but like in every comparison she makes she gets in the conclusion that Klaus is better. Of course her marriage is what she hates the most but what exactly does she expect from her allies? To give her a free and not restricted life & not marry her with someone else?
Well Klaus IS her enemy and a joy ride won’t change (although it does put things in perspective and adds fuel to the fire between them) and in the same way Caroline IS Klaus’ enemy and he is treating her as such even if he feels conflicted about it. This is a slow burn so they won’t remain enemies forever but for getting to a different layer when it comes to their relationship they have to go through certain stages. Their relationship and attraction is a complicated thing for both.
And yes Caroline is making the comparisons because it would be impossible not to. Despite what she thought of Klaus or believed she knew about him it is different now that she lives with him and sees sides of him she had never expected and things that Klaus doesn’t show to anyone else (something he can’t control).
Both Klaus and Caroline are control freaks to be honest. They are both Slytherin LOL and tend to dominate others but are in different positions of power and are on conflicting sides which turns them and their connection to a mess but the connection is there. The difference is the starting point and the means they can use. At this point Klaus has accepted who he is and he has gathered power. Caroline has been struggling long before she met and married Klaus. She was never meant to be a Made Man or an heir to the Salvatore power and she had already tried to detach herself from their life by starting college. Something that was already a progress for the traditions her family and words abide to and yet she had managed to do it.
And that was snatched away from her and I think she became cornered. People cornered don’t always react rationally especially if they are out of their depth and thrown in a situation that requires things from them they had never had to deal with before.
If Caroline’s father was alive maybe things would have been different but all of the sudden she is left mourning for her father and in an environment that knows is not safe. Not just when it comes to the Mikaelsons but in their world in general. And maybe she is and has been naive and she aims way too high by wanting to get out of the life eventually but if you pay more attention to her train of thought, despite what deal she may have struck with Montavaro and Mikael you can see that Caroline has realized one simple truth. Klaus is out for blood. Mikael’s blood and the blood of her brothers.
Now, Caroline is for sure bitter and angry with her brothers but they are still her brothers, her only family she has left. At this point she realizes that if Klaus is left to his own devices without anyone halting his plans it is just a matter of time before she eradicates not only Mikael but the Salvatores too and their marriage gives him more chances to do exactly that. Again, she knows if her father was alive things would different but he is not and at this point despite her dreams of freedom (as unattainable as they may be or not) her trust issues are not solely targeted on Klaus and his intentions but on her brothers too.
Everything her father has built is about to crumble down and she knows. If it does then she loses all the power she may have had and will be left solely on Klaus’ mercy and even if she could handle him in the end she knows that her family would be gone. Does she trust her brothers to stand up to that challenge and get out of it unscathed?
She even asked Stefan (in the midnight dinner) if he had understood Klaus’ plans and the situation in general and he was oblivious. She pointed him to the right direction and by extent Damon too. You can already see the shift in Stefan when he meets Klaus again. Damon was more prepared since he has more inside knowledge given his position as the Boss but Caroline didn’t know that and I don’t think she has much faith to Damon’s plans. And by striking the deal with Montavaro she realized how precarious Damon’s position still is as a leader (Montavaro would have never done such shit with Giuseppe) and so she managed to give Damon more ground to stand by solidifying him position publicly in the engagement party while still giving him time to establish himself AND managed to get not only Montavaro’s men in the Mikaelson house but also men that are bound to be loyal solely to Damon and even Damon said he was impressed. It is not much. It is something. Her eyes are set to the survival of her brothers but her hands are tied for the most part of it so she works with what she can get.
And it is not just that she doesn’t trust her brothers because she feels they sold her like cattle without providing what her father could provide for her for this marriage but she does not trust their abilities and power in comparison to Klaus and she sees it every day and she keeps comparing and that adds to her resolve to somehow save her family if her brothers can’t do it. And now she is in a position to do it but she is going in blind because the men of her world have their plans and use her as a pawn and she is trying to break free from that mentality and gain some control. It is a matter of time for Damon and Stefan to become cannon fodder if Klaus has his way and Caroline now stands in the middle and she knows it.
So yeah, she does want to break free and escape. She even found some leverage after talking to Laura (a few chapters back) but at the same time she has also realized that there has to be some change of plans and she has to prioritize to save her brothers. Either they deserve it or not, they are still her brothers. She may not want to see them ever again, she may not want to talk to them or accept them as her family but they are still her family.

With radio waves communicating in the very air around us we are constantly surrounded by a sea of information; of news, of humour, of knowledge and of music. Yet no one can hear it.
I think it’s rather poetic of the human race.
