Bariatric surgery update;
I saw my PCP doctor and did my bariatric blood work. My PCP will give final medical clearance once labs are back.
However, my bariatric surgeon decided I needed one more test before we get me scheduled for my surgery. It’s an esophageal manometry study. Basically they study my esophagus and the sphincter that is before the stomach to see how they function.
I live in a city with almost 500,000 people but basically this procedure it rare where I live. We have more than 4 hospitals and only 2 perform this procedure but when I called to get info about who does it in the hospital, no one can give me answers.
Instead I will just have it done at my bariatric surgeon’s hospital, which is 2 hours away, because they have a GI clinic where they only perform esophageal manometry studies. So if something goes wrong during the procedure, they have more than enough experience to handle it plus my bariatric surgeon is in the same building so I will be able to have a doctor familiar with both my teams of doctors (My team where I live and my Mayo transplant team) just in case.
On top of all of that, I have shingles due to stress. So I took yesterday off from appointments and all appointments today are cancelled. I can’t get a shingles vaccine since there is an antibiotic in it that I’m deathly allergic to. I have had shingles almost 10 times. I feel run down even with my meds for energy. Hopefully this passes soon!
