One of THE best Nightmusic episodes Sanborn put together. Loose, tight, and everything in between. Bootsy Collins, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Allen Toussaint, Karen Mantler (Carla’s daughter) and her band (which included Sanborn’s son), Pretty Fat, oh man…and Hiram…even a clip of The Moody Blues circa 1965 (Denny Laine singing “Go Now”). Everyone at the top of their game.
You might not get off on every performance, but I bet at least one will grab hold. Moons ago, I asked Sanborn why it ended, what happened: “…sponsors…couldn’t get sponsors”, he replied with a shrug. God, I miss this show.
