If your lights keep getting turned off and blacking out everyday, and your hot shower water continually goes cold, then you need to get an electrician to fix and replace the meter box. I’ve had to get an electrician to replace the very old meter box (electrical panel) personally in my previous home.
I know there’s a culture of not wanting to complain about old homes with good rent, but getting an electrician to fix a faulty meter box can prevent a fire and save countless lives, including your own life.
Please don’t let a culture of accepting electrical faults in old homes deter you from looking after your safety. I had a former ex friend who used to work for the council who meant well but mistakenly thought that a tripping circuit breaker that tripped everyday was nothing to worry about. Please note that council workers are not electricians, and that it’s your safety, and your neighbourhood’s safety on the line if a constantly tripping circuit breaker causes a fire.
Old, damaged and faulty meter boxes and power boards in old homes older than fifty years can cause fires. The older the meter box, the higher the fire risk. Meter boxes should be replaced every five to ten years.
If you’re living in a rental home you can ask your real estate agent to organise an electrician to fix and replace the meter box. Be sure to mention the circuit breaker is tripping and the lights go out daily, because they won’t send out an electrician to fix a meter box that trips once a month.
If the electrician won’t fix or replace the meter box, you can ask the real estate agent to send another electrician to replace the meter box.
