Having a Ball at Fordham University
By Genevieve Zola FCRH ‘21
If you ask any student at Fordham what their favorite weekend is, you’ll get one of two answers, Homecoming or Spring Weekend. My personal favorite is Homecoming, mostly because of “Prez Ball”. The President’s Ball is a dance for students on Friday night. It’s filled with loud music, flashing lights and lots of food. Everyone’s dressed their best: guys in shirts and ties, and girls in dresses and high heels that add an extra inch or two and make the most satisfying sounds clicking across the pavement as you walk in. But before you can even get into the dance, you’re greeted by none other than President of the University himself, who shakes your hand and invites you to enjoy your time at the dance. I remember when I was in my first year, my friends and I planned to stay only for an hour or so. We had such a great time, we ended up staying for the entire dance! For me there’s nothing like standing in a group of friends, swaying to the beat, watching some people show off their moves, while others claim they can’t dance and so just stand there, and bob their heads to the music. Of course when a classic, like Cotton-Eyed Joe comes on, no one can stop themselves from joining in. And the food, the food. If you tell me an event has free food, I’m there and if that food just so happens to include mini hot dogs and giant chocolate chip cookies, well it’s going to be difficult to get me to leave. President’s Ball was and is one of my favorite events at Fordham and if you’re looking for a place to dance the night away this is definitely the place to be.
