so fuckin dumpling shaped
reminder that even though chatot look like cute lil cage buddies, they're not ideal bird pet pokemon for the average household! they can easily live up to 80 years and that beak can take a finger off no sweat. they're about as intelligent as a 3-year old human child and need as much attention as one - getting a chatot means an inherent change in your day-to-day life. think of it as adopting a new dragon-type
ernie here (new name; his original name is not print-friendly) is overweight and has stress-plucked a lot of his coat from constant under-stimulation, and while he's doing well in rehab, we doubt he could be rehomed any time soon :(
pidove and ducklett have been age-old family members in the unova region, and for a good reason! they've taken well to being raised and bred to live alongside humans for centuries, unlike the bulk of the chatot trade, which are unfortunately still being taken straight from the wild. wild chatot feel safest and thrive in flocks of potentially over 4000, and while i'm not saying there aren't excellent trainers out there, i can safely bet most people can't cater for that.
...at least they're enjoying themselves
fossil pokemon typing speculations
continuation of this post, the intended addition lmao:
So it's actually been an ongoing study in the pokepaleontology sphere whether the rock typing is something 'stuck' from the revival simulation process, or if there was an environmental aspect in the prehistoric climate that encouraged a widespread adaption of a certain typing (much like normal types today!). the main megaminds nowadays are leaning towards the former, which would be interesting in that their hypothesis also entails that the rock typing has acted like a dominant gene during fossilisation. That's to say, modern fossil pokemon secondary types may have actually been their primary types until they got fossilised!
There are exceptions to this - the cranidos line have only ever had rock type genes extracted, BUT their samples had generally suffered from fairly extensive damage, usually from but not exclusive to lifestyle. There's some suspecting it may have had some fighting type DNA thrown in there, but others argue that it's just contamination from the other genes pokepaleontologists used to patch up the holes in the code
On the other hand, Unova boasted very intact tirtouga remains, and it was actually the first pokemon declared a non-primary rock type fossil, which was a huge breakthrough at the time!
Now higher fossil quality tends to paint a clearer picture of the original specimen, but it's entirely possible that the tirtouga situation was entirely coincidental and our current understanding of typing is, indeed, correct. But where's the fun in science if you think you know everything?
HOW DO YOU VACCINATE A ROCK TYPE?!?!?!
quickly and carefully haha!
despite what the typing may suggest, not all rock types* are made of rock, and most of our residents are in fact covered in either a mix of scales or finely-overlapping feathers, which you can inject between
as for something like a roggenrola…yeah, well, you may have to convince the lil guys to take something orally, much like our Hoenn fossils (whose biology is a little more tricky to just inject)
*i was actually going to add an addendum about fossil rock-typing but it turned out to be a bit lengthy so imma make a separate post for it lol. in the meantime here's my boy very excited that i bought him a massive chew bone for sitting so nicely for vaccines
u comfortable there buddy
playdate :)
