Let's learn some pride parade etiquette with me:

- don't vape or smoke, you can go without it for the time the parade takes, there's people with respiratory disorders like asthma or sensory issues around you

- disabled people and strollers go at the front for a reason, we set the pace for the rest so we don't get trampled or left behind, don't push forward for no reason

- don't start shit with anti-protesters, if someone tries to start shit with you, ignore them and alert the security (protect yourself if there's no security and the situation escalates)

And most importantly, keep yourself and others around you safe.

Some things to remember in honor of Pride month: Gender and pronouns edition.

1) You are the sole individual that can ever put a label on your own gender. No one has the right or ability to label you, and you are allowed to explore your relationship with your own gender as much or as little as you’d like.

2) As a follow-up, DO NOT label anyone else. If someone doesn’t have a label, DO NOT take it upon yourself to offer suggestions. Take anyone else’s gender identity at their word and their word only.

3) Gender is a unique and individual experience, how someone defines their gender can be different from how you define yours, even if you use the same label!

4) How someone dresses, acts, accessorizes, or expresses themselves is NOT indicative of their gender identity or pronouns.

5) I don’t care what you think, always use the name/pronoun(s) asked for when referring to someone. This is a BARE MINIMUM level of respect. If you intentionally misgender someone or use wrong pronouns for WHATEVER reason, check your transphobia and cut that shit out.

simple 2 step guide to being polite at pride when you see someone wearing something that makes you go “ehhhh” or “ew”:

1. Ask yourself if what they were wearing is any of your personal business. The answer is almost always no.

2. Look at something or someone else and mind your own damn business.

BONUS STEP: If someone makes a rude or snarky comment about what another person was wearing, you can reply with a helpful “I thought this was supposed to be a free country/they’re allowed to dress how they want” or “What are you, a cop?”
