One month of summer feels very bittersweet for me — largely due to the country I unfortunately live in. And even though I try to surround myself with people who understand me, a free life still feels endlessly out of reach. Many of you probably feel the same way. We're all sailing in the same leaky boats.
But that doesn't mean we have to stay silent about who we are or live in fear. It doesn't mean we have to tolerate ignorance and insults just because "we're the odd ones out, everyone's entitled to their opinion." Or that we have to conform to others' expectations.
No, we don't. We have every right to be angry. To defend ourselves. To stay true to who we are, no matter what. To choose carefully from the many "tolerant" and condescending people around us - keeping only those who make us feel truly safe. We have the right to demand respect, to be loud, to take up space, and to refuse to be someone else's "uncomfortable".
We only get one life - and it's ours alone. We owe it to ourselves to fight for something better.
