a/n: wow, day 2 and i’m ALREADY copping out with headcanons? well no, i just felt headcanons were the best way to do this story :) positivity friends
background: If you don’t know...the NYC Pride Ride is an annual event where people come together on June 2nd and bike around the state, similar to a marathon but a lot more chill. (Everyone is a winner). The event contains a 60, 90, or 100 mile option for how far you want to go. Rest stops, break sections, food, water, and mechanics are all along the path so everyone stays safe and fueled. At the end, everyone comes together for a festival with food, entertainment, and guest speakers. It’s really a time for people to come together and share stories while being healthy and active.

Not all of them rode bikes, some of them worked rest stops, helped out around the event, or helped with the after-ride celebrations.
But they all act a bit different during the event.
Albert and Elmer are cyclists. Albert loves the outdoors and is a pretty fast rider. But he keeps a slower pace to let Elmer keep up since he isn’t the best. Albert pushes him and cheers him on so that his spirits never diminish.
Bill and Darcy have been doing this event longer than any of the newsies, they love it. They both had a privileged life, so bikes were something they always could get. They ride through 100-miles with ease and even hold hands whenever they ride though especially pretty parts of the state.
Buttons and Jojo are general event volunteers, meaning they help out everywhere! This is a huge event so help is always needed and they both really enjoy cheering people on and giving positive encouragement. They also like learning and talking, so they usually stay at one of the stops and talk to the cyclists while they rest.
Crutchie, Romeo, Smalls, Specs and Sniper volunteer at the rest stops. Crutchie talks to everyone and gets to know their stories and what the ride means to them. Romeo passes out food and drinks. Smalls makes sure no one is injured and helps with any scrapes or sores they might get. Specs helped out around whatever people need, answering questions and giving support. And Sniper helps with bike repairs! He’s quite the mechanic and makes sure no one has a problem during the ride.
Davey and Jack, bike together, it took a lot of persuasion from Jack, but he finally convinced Davey to ride with him. Davey would usually volunteer at rest stops. However, Jack really wanted him to bike with him and he actually really enjoyed it...but he’ll never admit that Jack was right.
Finch is very competitive when he bikes. He makes it a competition when it isn’t, but he isn’t trying to beat anyone, he’s just trying to outdo himself. Every year he tries to beat his time last year. He stops the time during breaks so he can make sure he refuils properly. He rides alone cause no one else can keep up.
Henry, Kenny, and Kid Blink work throughout the day helping set up for the food part of the festival! While the cyclists are biking through the state, they uses the day to get the food ready. Along with cooking, they also work to help set up the tables and areas needed for the BBQ.
Hotshot, Spot, Race, Mush, Mike, and Ike all teamed up to ride together. They all have about the same level of cycling abilities so it was an easy fit. They joke around and play while riding, they really make it fun in their own little way. Race fell off his bike too many times to count but he didn’t get hurt which is a plus. He did, however, make Spot kiss his “boo-boo” everytime, even though most of the time it wasn’t even a scratch.
Katherine and Sarah bike together. They have adorable matching bikes, maybe not the best for a marathon ride, but good for slower rides. So their solution is to do just that. They pace themselves out and just enjoy the company. Like Bill and Darcy, they also enjoy holding hands while biking.
Tommy Boy is not-so-surprisingly the best biker. So he rode alone and just enjoyed himself. He met up with his friends at rest stops and talked about how lovely the state looks when you really get a chance to see it.
But overall, they love this tradition and will make sure to participate every year.
