It’s aromantic spectrum-awareness week!
A combined aromantic and aegosexual pride shield!
Quarterly, first and fourth Vert an inescutcheon tierced per fesse Argent, Cendrée and Sable, second and third Purpure an inescutcheon tierced per pale Sable, Cendrée and Argent.
Having prepared a full set of #heraldic hatchings I've used almost all of them in the first hatched Pride Shield, the intersectional shield.
The idea is to present the design(s) in a way that is equally accessible to colourblind and non-colourblind people. However due to the nature of the hatching patterns I'm concerned about triggering epileptic seizures. Opinions welcome.
Also, what’s the best tag for people’s filters? I don’t want to accidentally tag it in such a way as to cause seizures.
As promised, a better version of the Intersectional Pride Shield.
Per chevron reversed, the upper portion chevronny reversed of six, Or, Argent, Rose, Bleu celeste, Brunâtre and Sable, in chief an annulet Purpure. The lower portion party per chevron enarched of six Gules, Orange, Or, Vert, Azure and Purpure.
The intersex emblem is now included, introducing the first charge to these designs. I can’t think of a more deserving first charge.
An aegosexual pride shield!
Purpure an inescutcheon tierced per pale Sable, Cendrée and Argent.
I tried a few things for this, including a countercharged pile, but it just didn’t work. I also value the symbolism of the inescutcheon upon the purpure field, because that field represents the community which, in this form, is giving support.
So I decided to take a different approach to inversion, since it’s such a prominent feature of the flag. Whereas the asexual pride shield has its escutcheon tierced per fesse, for aegosexual pride I have tierced it per pale, treating the vertical as an inverse of the horizontal.
Asexual AND aromantic pride shields!
The asexual pride shield: Purpure an inescutcheon tierced per fesse Sable, Cendrée and Argent. The aromantic pride shield: Vert an inescutcheon tierced per fesse Argent, Cendrée and Sable.
Two for one today, a matching pair. I was taken with the inversion of the monochromatic stripes between the flags and knew at once that this would fit.
The inescutcheon is a smaller shield within a larger one (the escutcheon).
Some Aroace pride shields!
Okay, I may have gone a little overboard here? There were just so many ways to do this! So I’m presenting you with THREE designs!
In the middle we have a very heraldic approach indeed. Because I already designed shields for both asexual and aromantic pride I have used the heraldic technique known as quartering (a form of marshalling), a display of unity and merger. It is emblazoned thus:
Quarterly, first and fourth Purpure an inescutcheon tierced per fesse Sable, Cendrée and Argen; second and third Vert an inescutcheon tierced per fesse Argent, Cendrée and Sable.
To the left* a brand new design based upon the flag and arranged in a way I thought complementary to the symbolism:
A field per bend sinister Orange and Azure, a bordure Or, an inescutcheon Argent.
This leaves the third shield, an obvious heraldic pun. This is because one of my favourite people, @sassymccoy, is a potential bearer of this shield and one of the few people I know who appreciates puns as much as I. The blazon:
Orange, in honour point an arrow fesswise Or, in nombril point an ace playing card Argent and Azure.
Phew! I may need to lie down after all that.
* it’s hard, when posting these, to remember that that’s the left. In heraldry, it’s the dexter side.
A disability pride shield.
Argent a bend bendy of seven, the first and seventh Sable, the remainder Azure Or Gules, Argent and Vert; all dancetté.
Inspiration drawn from existing disability pride flags, with a slight rearrangement of tinctures and alteration of form to fit within the language and conventions of heraldry. Various forms of marshaling may be employed to combine this with other escutcheons.
A transgender pride shield!
Once again I want to emphasize that I’m open to feedback.
Party per fesse Rose and Bleu celeste, countercharged a fesse chequy. Over all a palet Argent.
This is my interpretation into heraldic form of the message that I understand from the transgender pride flag. This is the first of these shields to employ a diminutive of an honourable ordinary, which is the palet.
A pale occupies one full third of the shield’s width, while the palet occupies half as much. I used the palet here because I found it more pleasing both on its own æsthetic merits and as an echo of the proportions of the flag.
