hey! i'd love to run your pridebot on a few servers i mod/own, do you have a tutorial on how to do that with the code provided? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

nonono, this is a very good question, actually!

i’m assuming you’re gonna be installing this on your own li’l server machine. i have a little raspberry pi hooked up - it’s only $35 and should do the trick; otherwise if your computer shuts off, so does the bot.

if this isn’t what you’re looking for (i.e. you just want a link to add the bot), i can’t provide that currently; a raspberry pi isn’t the most powerful machine to run a Discord bot on and can only be run on a few servers reliably.

anyways!! the steps. a good chunk of this is in the README.MD file, but it bears repeating.

install python 3.6; i might make it more backward-compatible with 3.5 in the future. when you install it, make sure pip is installed with it. this is important for part 3.

if you’re running windows: open up command prompt as an admin by right-clicking it and selecting “run as admin”. This is also important for part 3.if you’re running macOS or a Linux distro,  and are using an admin account (if you have one account, it’s the admin account, I’d think.), open up Terminal.

on windows, using command prompt: type pip install requests, discord, pillow - this installs the needed packages. for mac and linux users, you have to put sudo pip install requests, discord, pillow. without these packages, the bot won’t run.

Get the files! Just download them and unzip them somewhere. https://github.com/sympolite/pridebot. Remember where you unzipped everything.

Create a Discord Bot account here - https://discordapp.com/developers/applications/me. Here’s a how-to on that. Copy the token...

Open up pridebot_v1_1.py in a text editor. Under the “IMPORTANT VARIABLES” section, put the client token between the quotemarks. Your bot will crash if you mess this up.

You can either double-click to run the bot (at least in Windows), or if you like doing things the hard way, go to Command Prompt/Terminal, type: cd C:/(full path to folder here)/pridebot-master [WINDOWS] or cd /(full path to folder here)/pridebot-master [MAC, LINUX]If you have it installed on your Desktop and your username is “Foo”, it’ll look like: C:\Users\Foo\Desktop\pridebot-master in Windows, /Users/Foo/Desktop in MacOS, and/home/Foo/Desktop in Linux.

if you did it the hard way in #7, type python pridebot_v1_1.py.

if everything’s good to go, it should run!

i’ll probably make this whole process more user-friendly in the future, but until then, it’ll take about 30 minutes of work to set up. let me know if you have any questions!
