for the record: i am wearing this shirt i got for 3€ in the men's basics section

going to the bigger store because i needed to pick up some stuff my usual store doesnt carry. the cashier is a guy about my age. when it's my turn, i say hi, and he goes EITHER "oh, dressed in pink" or "seeing life through rose-tinted glasses" (and if you wonder how on earth i could mix these two statements: in french it sounds very close. anyway)

i go, "what?"

he goes, "pink."

i go, "what?"

"your shirt. it's pink."

"indeed it is"

"thats a choice. better not go to russia huh"

Made this post about 15 minutes after the repair guy who fixed the pump on my dishwasher packed up his tools and left, as the dishwasher was whirring along doing my dishes from that morning.

He said the exact same thing, which I did not know before that, so spreading this knowledge.

I'm finding it immensely helpful to read books about AI, because my past grumblings of "it's bad for the environment" really pale in comparison to what I'm learning.

But im not finding it easier to talk about AI with the people in my life who use it. The evils are both enormous and complex. I cannot, on the spot and in casual conversation, recite the colonial and political history that led to entire towns in Chile being devastated by AI data centers. It is unseemly to bring up how many women have had miscarriages because of lack of access to drinking water worsened by data center pollutants in places like Uruguay. How racist surveillance of the public in South Africa has been used as training data for AI companies. How AI companies would not limit their use of drinking water even during Arizona's most severe drought in history. How this whole paragraph isn't even scratching the surface of what is evil about AI companies.

It's actually so much harder now to articulate my absolute hatred or to know how to approach these conversations.

as a pharmacist seeing content about the side effects of birth control made in this very sensationalist way makes me feel weird because yes it’s important to make a fully informed decision about the risks of taking contraception, but you need to understand that ALL medications have rare but serious side effects. everyday medications like paracetamol and ibuprofen have crazy side effects like heart failure and death but people still take them because there’s an understanding that these risks are extremely rare. yes they happen to some people but statistically you’re probably more way more likely to die in a car accident than get a brain tumour from birth control pills. but that doesn’t stop you from getting into a car. Birth control isn’t for everyone but it is an incredibly valuable medication that is a cornerstone of women’s health and reproductive rights. In an age of increasing right wing ideology, abortion bans, violence against women, and fears around reducing birth rates, going out of your way to make fear mongering statements about contraception and paint it as this big scary medication that’s going to kill you feels like a psyop

Do employers know that employees are actually reusable if you let them rest? Like if you don't use them up completely all at once, and give them time to rest and recover before the next work day, they just kinda grow back? That's how they used to do it back in the day, you could hire five people to do five people's workload, and then keep the same five people for 40 years without issue, instead of having 2-3 people doing five people's work and have to constantly keep looking for replacements since you keep running them to the ground, completely using up like 10-20 employees per year.

We still have access to all the same technology and materials that they were using back in the day. Literally nothing requires us to operate the way things work now.
