headcanon 02: PRIDE - spirit
► word count: 153
No matter how broken her spirit was, nothing that Quinn had ever been through had managed to keep her away from church. When she was pregnant, she went to a church service far enough away for no one to recognize her. When she as rebellious and cover in pink Manic Panic, she found a more progressive church that met in an old movie theater. Church was the one thing in Quinn's life that was constant. It was the one thing she always had. It never let her down. No matter how screwed up her life felt or who she was pretending to be that day, she could sit on the wooden pew and feel like she was home. Her spirit was lighter there. She knew that God was always with her, but there she could feel him comforting her. She always walked out of the Sunday service refreshed with her spirit painted gold.
headcanon 02: PRIDE - harmony
► word count: 164
For Quinn, harmony wasn't something that came easy. It wasn't her mother, father, and sisters eating brunch together after church. That had felt like they were putting on a show. She felt harmony once her father was kicked out and she could return to her house. Harmony was her mother helping her dye her hair pink, or her sisters helping her bleach it back to blonde. Quinn didn't need that all the time. She could thrive on chaos. She practically craved chaos when it felt like everything was going too smooth. But she hadn't always felt like she had somewhere to go to when everything was too much for her. The older she grew, the more Quinn found that in her mother.
Their relationship wasn't perfect, and sometimes the crack in the foundation would show, but despite the things they disagreed on, they could be at peace, in sync, harmonious. At the end of the day, that's all Quinn ever wanted from her mother.
headcanon 02: PRIDE - nature
► word count: 150
Quinn had never been the “outdoorsy” type. She was a girl scout when she was little, but she preferred the arts and crafts days far more than the camping trips. She never minded the glamorous parts of nature, like laying out by the pool or eating brunch on the patio. She had even taken up hiking once she moved to California, although she admittedly only did that for the sake of her YouTube channel. She basically enjoyed being outside as long as her hands didn’t get too dirty.
The exception was the beach. Quinn could be on the beach all day and all night. She didn’t care if she left with salt water dripping from her hair or bruises from falling off a paddleboard. As long as she had a chance to relax with her toes in the sand, Quinn wasn’t mad when she dragged it all over her car.
headcanon 02: PRIDE - sunshine
► word count: 144
Quinn wasn’t excited about moving to California. She was honestly kind of dreading it. All she had known was life on the east coast. Walking out of airport didn’t feel as glamorous as she thought it was supposed to (thank you, Miley Cyrus). She didn’t immediately meet any celebrities. All of her cliche headcanons were completely inaccurate. It was even raining while she tried to grab an Uber. Quinn couldn’t help but wonder if she had made a huge mistake leaving behind everything she knew.
The next morning when Quinn woke up at the crack of dawn with the sun shining brightly through her blinds, she began to change her mind. She made herself breakfast, and ate it sitting barefoot on her porch with her robe on. This was something she could get used to. Maybe she was a California girl in the making.
headcanon 02: PRIDE - healing
► word count: 195
Quinn started seeing a therapist after her sophomore year at Yale. It was a major adjustment for her, sitting in front of a stranger and telling them all the things that sometimes made her feel crazy. She was used to keeping those inside. But Quinn powered through it, no matter how uncomfortable it was. She learned that she wasn't as crazy as she thought. She was just broken, and that was okay. Most people were broken. She could heal.
She learned that her past wasn't responsible for her choices. Having a bad day didn't mean she could take it out on other people. Sleeping with someone she just met wasn't excused because of her daddy issues. It didn't matter if she felt fat on a particular day. She didn't get to make someone else feel that way too. It wouldn't actually make her feel any better.
As much as Quinn would have loved to pack up her therapist and drag them to California, that was obviously impossible. She found a new one of the west coast, but kept her New Haven therapist on speed dial, just in case she might need an emergency Skype session.
