There was p l e n t y they had to learn of this curious, makeshift family Eda had found herself with (whether she named them as such or not), but the tube-like bird demon was an anomaly that seemed to continue to throw them for a disconcerting loop.

‘ MORRISON IS RIGHT. I DON’T PARTICULARLY LIKE THE GUY..BUT HE IS. I think you know that as well as I do. ’  Fists halt. The punchbag swinging aimlessly for a few moments before hands reach out to catch it. Slowing. Stalling it. Grey eyes looking it over. Glancing up at the reinforced fixtures that held it in place - the second lot to be installed after the powers that be had found out just how much force the cybernetic limb could wield. A slow breath leaving Barnes before that steel colored gaze was turned over at the man s t a l k i n g into the training room. One of only TWO on the whole base allowed in the room alone with the soldier since he’d been allowed to roam for brief periods out of the holding cell. 

The tight hiss of pressured locks sealing behind Reyes making that obvious...but not as obvious as Barnes wishes it was somehow.

‘ Putting me out there. On the ground.....on MISSIONS with a team? Covert or not. It’s too risky. I’m a liability...even to YOU. ’

    “Cerberus, darling. It’s been a few hundred thousand years.” The old pagan mused with a faint smile. Ah, such a graceful an striking presence. Never a dull moment when he picked up on an old beast like that. 

“It’s been a few eons. Hows dear Hades doing, love~” Ifrit gave a low bow in a respectful greeting. “I hope you’ve been well.”

The sound of her approach caught his drifting attention. Brakkod’s head lifted slowly, narrowed and azure gaze fixed on the stranger. He’d expected --- however distantly in his current state --- to see fear in her eyes. He expected a shriek, the immediate sound of a hasty, stumbling retreat back through the overgrown underbrush. Instead, there came words... winding their way through the beast’s pain-clouded mind. 

Bleeding. That would make sense. It would explain why his side stung so terribly, why he couldn’t raise his sinewed wing any further than his shoulder, why he felt so overly exhausted... far more than the battle and flight should have worn him. Sharp breaths escaped in puffs of black smoke from his nostrils as his neck craned. Low growl slipped out at the pulling burn.  

Bleeding. He was bleeding. Scales had been ripped free, the skin beneath ripped and bearing the lingering signs of arrow and spear shafts already torn free from the rough landing he’d had. 

He turned back to meet her gaze. This was an unfamiliar situation... entirely at the stranger’s mercy, too wounded to move, to even force flame free from the back of his throat. Head tipped, as though questioning her, watching with the barest trace of trepidation --- poorly concealed --- for what she may do, now that she’d discovered a fearsome creature in so low and vulnerable a state.

The words are as unpredictable as Smaug is. Whereas before Olivia knew herself capable of reading the dragon and what he was thinking. So used to his moments of silence and the inner workings, the school teacher had taken it upon herself to see through Smaug’s actions, than his words, knowing they spoke ferociously than any romantic poem could.  

It left little reassurance for Olivia too. Hearing, knowing, without a doubt that her lover’s feelings are known gave her certainty that it wasn’t just assumption on her part and an over-arrogance that one could mistaken for a pompous nature. Something she did not want Smaug to ever feel or any outside parties assuming she is naïve or too confident in herself as a partner.

In the now, Smaug’s spoken words of how vulnerable he felt around her, and that she is all he thinks of that it gave her the a sense of euphoria, even when there is a twinge of dread that she is too much for him. Consuming and smothering a heart she had only wished to adore and embrace with a faithful love. 

“I... did not know.” Olivia starts, a hand coming up to place a hand against Smaug’s cheek, now skin and warm human flesh to the touch. “I am usually the emotional one, darlin’. In all aspects of my life... I know I am excessive with how I feel towards those I care for.” Family. Friends. And now her dearest lover and partner. “Thank you for makin’ me feel less alone in these feelings, Smaug darlin’. Yer all I feel too.”
