Here's Primal Mewtwo, a primal reversion of Mewtwo I designed in 2015, then redesigned in 2024! The 2015 design was actually a retooling of a 2013 Mega Mewtwo Z design, making this tied with Arivinity for the second most redesigned fakemon I've made.
Type: Psychic/???
Height: ???
Weight: ???
Pokedex Entry: When Mewtwo absorbed an immense amount of natural energy, its form became unstable. Due to being a man-made Pokemon, it could not handle this natural energy, causing its mind and body to deteriorate.
This is another case where I think the original core idea was pretty good, but the execution was just way too busy. As a result, I focused on simplifying it. Being that this is a (not very subtle) reference to Giegue/Giygas from the Mother/EarthBound series, an alien that already bears a passing resemblance to Mewtwo, the initial goal in the original artwork was to create a "Giygas-ified" version of Mewtwo. What if Mewtwo used the Devil's Machine, basically? Or a Pokemon equivalent of it.
For the redesign, I shaved off some stuff on its head and back, kept the obvious references and noodley limbs, but gave it back its digits instead of having its limbs be straight-up tendrils like Giegue's from Mother 1. I also adjusted the color palette significantly, keeping it more in-line with how the Mega Mewtwo forms have more of a reddish/pinkish tint to them than the base Mewtwo's purple, but still keeping that purple tint for the body.
Additionally, if you're wondering if the ???-typing is a placeholder, it's actually deliberate. Something something "you cannot grasp the true form" and all that.
In hindsight, it doesn't really make sense for it to be dual type, since ???-type becomes pointless once another type is added (no more neutral effectiveness for all types). But eh... Whatever.
Here is the original 2015 art for reference.
Additionally, here is the Mega Mewtwo Z design that the above was a retooling of, from 2013.
