Leather, launched
Well, we made it. The first three products from our collaboration with Born+Bred can now be found online – and there's more on the way.
The range begins with our Haggerston Holster – a strap for your belt that'll stow your D-lock as you ride. Available with a matching leather belt, it's discreet enough to wear even while your bike uses the lock.
Next up is the Berlin Wallet. This has been designed with the cyclist in mind – room for a couple of cards, your iPhone with headphone jack exposed if you want it (safety first though, of course) and a loop to help fasten to your belt for security as you pedal.
Finally, our Burbage Footstraps. These are designed with commuting and lunchtime rides in mind – gentle on smart shoes so you can ride hop-on-hop-off fixed gear in town without carrying spare footwear. They also work well on vintage or modern builds – and in case you're wondering, we call them 'Burbage' after the road that's home to our favourite London velodrome.
So, what next? Well, we've a saddle/frame bag (previewed in the picture above) due on sale in days once we get some decent pictures, and various prototypes now being tested – including some unique lightweight luggage and parts for committed bicycle restorationists.
You can find more details on the Born+Bred X Primal Fixed collaboration here, including contact details – and we're happy to listen to everything from press enquiries to product ideas.
Born+Bred X Primal Fixed
Born and Bred England and Primal Fixed are born of similar concepts. Of simplicity, practicality, durability and style – plus the kind of pride you get only from genuine handcrafted quality.
For Born and Bred England that means wallets, belts, luggage and accessories designed and hand-made in front of browsing customers at its Brighton boutique and workshop. Each product is unique and carries a lifetime guarantee.
Primal Fixed is a blog conceived by a small collective of bike tinkerers in London as an appreciation of simplicity in urban bicycling – two wheels, one gear and an idea that ‘I made this’ is more satisfying and often cheaper than a big cheque to a bike shop.
And so the two brands come together to launch the first in a series of products for the cyclist about town, crafted using traditional techniques and to stand up to the demands of daily use. Each is co-designed and extensively tested by cyclists to deliver a curated range of leather goods that look right and work well.

A bunch of nuts
We've been so head-down lately there's barely been time for a tweet, let alone posts on here. But the good news is it's all for the right reasons – we are mid-reboot here at Primal.
It's an evolution rather than revolution, starting with our new logo. We'd grown rather fond of the old monkey but we're close to launching our first range of products – something of a rubicon for our branding, and we felt the chimp could use a more mature aesthetic.
Then, a chance discovery by playing with some nuts. Much credit needs to go to our talented design chief Dave for this, but an arrangement of three spanner-friendly fasteners does have something of the simian look about it.
So a new logo is born. And later this week we'll see the first of our new product range to wear the stamp (literally) – the result of a collaboration with a boutique manufacturer on the south coast we have long been fans of.
