Dinner in Prime 7
Tuesday 18th February 2025 – At Sea
Departing Suva at 5pm, it was soon time for dinner again and tonight it was in ‘Prime 7’ (on deck 5, just to confuse everybody!).
This is the third complimentary speciality restaurant on board and the second of the two you have to book for in advance. The menu is fairly extensive; it’s certainly large in dimension!
We started with an Amuse Bouche of warm broth-topped tomato soup – nice, except that eating soup with a teaspoon from a tiny rectangular glass required some dexterity!
From the starters I chose the Lump Crab Cake to start, followed by the Vidalia Onion Soup. The soup was quite sweet (that’s the Vidalia) but both dishes were exceptional.
For my main, I couldn’t resist the old favourite, ‘Surf ‘n Turf’ – Filet Mignon with Lobster Tail, both cooked perfectly. I ordered mine with a baked potato (with sour cream & chives) and green beans with onion & bacon; delicious!
Meanwhile, Andrew, putting his trust in the waiter’s recommendation, ordered the Rib-Eye Steak – well done of course - and it was perfect!
For dessert, we both chose the Rocky Road Bread Pudding, imaginative and tasty, while not being too heavy after such a big meal.
Overall, we both agreed this was probably one of the best meals we’ve had on board. However, Prime 7 is something of a victim of its own success because it’s clearly very popular and too small; the tables are very crowded and we got off to bad start when some rather rude passengers pushed past in the cramped walkway while our waiter was trying to take our order.
Aside from that, our principal waiter was excellent and the dinner was only marred by other distracted wait-staff being either too quick to be chatty with other tables or too bored to notice that we were not ‘sir and madam’! Nevertheless, we’d like to go again, if only to sample some of the other temptation on the menu but whether or not we can get a table remains to be seen…..
