AUDIBLE - PRIME MEAT, a playlist on Spotify
It used to be that if you had a trustworthy butcher, he'd carve out the best cuts just for you. Same goes for your local record store clerk. They knew your tastes and always had the perfect recommendation when you walked in the door.
I won't be customizing this playlist just for you so the analogy is a little broken but I think you get it. As I swim through the sea of music that's available at our fingertips these days, this playlist is where I deposit the pearls worth keeping around. The most recent additions are:
Supreme Jubilees - Rerelease on the A Light in the Attic label out of Seattle. Two brothers singing gospel in the 70's and incorporating a bit of R&B and even some disco into the mix.
Hanni El Khatib - At first this guy struck me as kind of a rip off of The Black Keys but as I got deeper into the album the blues rock riffage became more varied and started having its own identity. Talented songwriter and guitarist.
Panda Bear - The band Animal Collective has always been a little tough for me to unlock. Mostly I hear a bunch of cacophony but every once in a while they crank out a tune that really sticks to your ribs. Panda Bear is the moniker for Noah Lennox, perhaps the most melodically-driven member of Animal Collective. With this record, Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper, he's reeled me in as a fan of the full release. For more of my thoughts on this release, take a look at my Instagram entry on another project I'm working on with my buddy Yoni, Record of the Week.
That's it for now. Follow the playlist and ye shall be rewarded with new tunes on a semi-frequent basis... And they will be tasty.
