Dialogue
Talitha snorted. “Fair enough. I’d love to get a chance to examine this place.”
Alinora cocked her head. “Aren’t you worried about finding something you weren’t meant to know?”
Talitha shrugged. “Knowledge is knowledge. Always good to have.”
“I don’t know. Some people might disagree with you.” They started walking again. “Ignorance is bliss, and all that.”
Talitha shrugged. “Sure. Ignorance is bliss right up until you walk into a pit full of vipers because you didn’t know enough to read the warning signs.”
Alinora snorted. “Well said.”
“Eh. I have my moments.” She winked. “I have more of ‘em when I spend time with pretty women.”
Alinora pursed her lips and raised an eyebrow. “You’re incorrigible, aren’t you?”
Talitha laughed. “You don’t even know the half of it, darlin’. But do tell me if the flirting makes you too uncomfortable. There’s no pressure. Not really. I just like to let people know when I appreciate ‘em. And, well. Smooth-talking comes easiest.”
Alinora bit back a smile. “Don’t worry. If you cross any lines, you’ll find out about it real quick. Though it mind end up with your ass on the floor and a broken nose.”
Talitha threw her head back when she laughed this time; the light from the dome catching on her teeth. “You’re alright, princess.”
I suppose you’re not half-bad yourself, pirate. She didn’t say the words, even if she thought them.
Description
Over them was a dome. It was a greenish yellow; waves of energy crackling soundlessly over its surface. Through it, Eldora’s twin moons were visible against a backdrop of stars. The third and smallest moon was new, tonight. The air was warm against their skin. It felt— It felt like spring, back in Mynera. A gentle breeze tousled their hair, and Alinora could smell fresh earth. It was… almost tranquil.
The city was silent and still. Only shadows walked the streets. Houses were empty. A few doors hung a jar; others had rotted. Moss and ivy climbed up the side of buildings, made of wood and stone. The cobbled road was cracked and ruined; tree roots and underbrush having spread from the house’s yards.
It was a city painted in grays; abandoned and forgotten, but… there was a sort of serenity that hung in the air. Like this place was protected, by some unseen force.
As she had the thought, a gust of wind ghosted across her cheek; feeling like the faint brush of a hand in a caress.
Out of Context Line
“Alinora Mynerva.” There was a husky quality to his voice, but it was soft. Feather-light. “It is a pleasure to finally meet you, though I do wish it had come… later.”
