Loved qin-qin16's take on Nova, I totally agree with the thought that Nova's world is less saturated too.
I think Nova would have visible, permanent eyebags - maybe he overworks himself, unwilling to drop his 'Sans' act. Maybe he loses sleep over his belief that the world is scripted.
Not too different to qin-qin16's, but the design is fitting so no need to fix it if it ain't broken.

I see his universe being more washed out in color? Sort of colorless depending on the season, and since we're going to have a lot of drama and maybe horror, I figured cooler colors would be interesting.

UNDERTALE - a once hugely popular show - has been cancelled after an abysmal season 2 due to waning interest and low ratings. But that just won't do for the new and upcoming actor who plays Sans - a fairly minor character who is just about to have an important arc at the end of season 2.
After all, this show might just be what they need to finally break through in the industry and become a star just like they've always wanted...
Prime-Time AU is an Undertale "actor" AU with a twist: Only "Sans" believes that they are playing a scripted role in the world around them. Everything they do, they believe they have to do it because of the script they have been given to by the producer/director of the show they're supposedly in. Their only function is to entertain the audience and convince them to renew the next season, to end the constant show reruns (resets) that plague them.
"Sans" believes that they are either an actor playing a character in a show, or the character himself. They don't refer to themself as "Sans" and have no preferred name. They will be referred to as "Nova" by the producer/director and from here on out.
Nova is highly driven by a desire to be the best actor/character there can be. "I want to be a star," they lament.
Nova believes that the Human is their rival in popularity and success. Thus, they need to eliminate this rival by any means necessarily.
Nova believes that any fight or death occurring is of no big deal, as death is impermanent in this world anyway. The only thing that matters is entertainment.
Nova will do anything to please the audience - anything to have the show renewed and continue on. Anything for a happy ending.
Note: This AU is still under construction! Not all details are ironed out yet, but feel free to use my AU for personal use, excluding RP as I intend to have stories laid out some time soon. Just ask me for anything regarding the AU - I would love to talk about it :]

i'd say they're a pretty good liar after all their time perfecting their acting craft! though acting in front of a camera and being confronted by a real person are two different things. i'd say they tend to slightly look to a spot next to the person they're talking to when they're lying. it's easier to imagine you're just practicing your lines to yourself when you're not keeping eye contact.

they don't have much time off-camera, since that's the nature of their world/show. it's easy to assume that "the camera" is always on them, even when it isn't (maybe). anything that tanks ratings is a no-no, so over time they will listen to "the producer" or their "agent" to see what's the optimal and acceptable performance. i'd say nova refuses to act off-script as a sans, so they don't want to break down screaming or do anything to hurt their (valuable) body lest that would affect how the audience sees them.

being told that they're just a mediocre performer, that you can see through their "act". totally the worst thing to say to an aspiring superstar for real >:(

ironically i think they hate being taken photos off when it's not "in the script". gosh, imagine being perceived almost 24/7 and now you have to deal with paparazzi too - if they were any less of a professional, they'd explode at those inconsiderate vultures already :/

depends on who they consider to be friends, family, strangers, etc. chara/frisk/the human is obviously a rival they need to deal with, so they'd be pretty mean-spirited, even though they have to keep it within "the script". funnily enough, they hate mettaton too, because he's too flamboyant and hogging the limelight even though he's just a one-trick pony.
nova is somewhat of a workaholic, as they would describe themself, so work usually bleed into personal life too. they don't consider "papyrus" to be their brother - because of course this is all a big show - but they treat him like one, even off-camera. they quite like whoever is playing the lady behind the door too - she's quite an amicable person to relax with. but overall, they would treat everyone on the show as colleagues basically.
the only ones they show deference to are "the producer/director", the audience, and their "agent" of course. those are the people nova treats with some caution and fear.

they don't trust easily, because showbiz is serious business after all. they'll never know who will backstab them, who will reveal the hot goss to the press and tabloids. it's important to keep an image, even to people they think they can trust.

the scene opens, again, with you sitting at a table. warm lights overhead, slightly too bright. the kind that makes you squint but looks good on camera. you know all of this by now – the angles, the blocking, the cues. you’ve rehearsed this before, haven’t you?
across from you sits your co-star. they smile like they mean it. you’re supposed to smile back. you do. or try, at least. you’re not sure it landed. a bad take, but the director hasn’t called for another.
their voice is steady, scripted. you know this line. “i’ve never met anyone like you before.” they’ve said it before. or someone has. or maybe it was you. the lines blur.
the cafe hums around you, a perfect soundstage. coffee machines hiss and dishes clatter in the background. extras mill about, their faces soft, as though they’ve been blurred in post.
you laugh on cue. it feels hollow. the laugh track doesn’t play, but you can almost hear it. the phantom applause of the invisible audience. you glance to the side, searching for the cameras. you’ve never found them, but you know they’re there.
they always are.
you wonder who’s watching. what they think of this, of your performance. whether they derive some fun from this. here you are, a minor character in a never-ending rerun of an abandoned show, no more arcs, no more resolutions, just endless scenes strung together forever and ever.
your co-star say something else to you. you nod. your body moves on autopilot, the way it’s supposed to. you’re not allowed to break character. not here. not ever.
for a brief second, you close your eyes. beg the showrunner, the writer, the director, the god of this sad, spinning set. cut. please, cut.
when you open them, the co-star is still smiling. the lights buzz above you. the scene continues.
Since Alphys has cameras all over the Underground, do you think Nova would think of her as one of the cameras or even producers of the "show"? Or that they would just review the videos over and over again just to look for any mistakes in their own acting?
oooh this is an interesting ask!! for prime-time au, i'm having ideas of fitting alphys and asgore into some roles too. alphys is somewhat aware of timelines and game mechanics, even though she doesn't experience them. asgore is very aware of timelines, and in the game he breaks our mercy button, so there's that. i kinda headcanon that assuming the role of the monarch of the underground grants you certain perspectives into the way the world works - maybe it's also tied into the fact that the castle is next to the barrier, and the barrier sure is.... something strange and supernatural. you know how there is the concept of fourth wall in theater? maybe the barrier is that - the wall between the audience and the actors :]
anyway, regarding nova, i think it'd be cool to have themes of eyes and the gaze all over their story. so, any camera is a gaze upon nova, and nova will be super conscious of them all the time. the fact that alphys has so many eyes over the underground definitely spooks nova somewhat, and i don't necessarily think nova links alphys to the producers specifically. "alphys" after all is just a character like "sans", isn't she? but the thing is that nova doesn't really know anyone behind their supposed roles in the story, so they definitely will have an uneasy feeling around the lab and alphys for sure.
so technically @ask-pt-nova is on break right now. the in-universe reason is that nova has a stage accident (rip to them trying to perform that cursed "i'm gonna be a star" song). but the irl reason is that i'm looking to revamp it a little bit - basically making it look more like a fan website (with fan mail, interviews, quizzes, and anything reminding me of old-school magazines lol). gotta take some time learning html and css again for this, but i'll drip-feed nova's fans with some fics here and there so don't worry lol. (and of course feel free to send me anything about nova i would love that too)
