The task of surveying the supposedly empty environment was an easy enough duty. The concept of being left to her own devices was somewhat refreshing. At least, it was at first.

To say the woman was surprised at the sight of another being was an understatement. The area was supposed to be vacant, yet there he was, situated beside the equipment she had been provided.

The Sacred Flame flickered in its travel brazier, sending warmth and light against Tsukishima’s back.

His shadow fell before him, darkness upon darkness hiding the beast who had taken out his partner. 

Peering forward, the spear he had been given for protection gripped in a loose hand, Tsukishima waited. After a moment of tense silence, he sighed.

“I know you’re there, so if you’re going to attack, you may as well go ahead.” He shook his head, a sardonic smile forming. “While I may be curious about the darkness of the Abyss, I can’t say I want to experience it for myself, so please, take your chances.”

The shadows flickered, the brazier’s flame licking against the side of it’s bowl, too heavy to carry by himself. 

Humanity was probably screwed.

Tsukishima shrugged his shoulder, the fresh wound seeping blood into the torn fabric of his shirt. And then, he smiled, nose scrunched up at the burning pain, his eyes gleaming at the challenge. The restraints chaffed, but it didn’t stop him from shifting into the most casual position he could assume.

“You think I’m the one who is mistaken, huh?” Slowly Tsukishima’s head tilted to the side to regard the other man with amusement. “But you see, I don’t remember saying anything about looking for mercy.”
