with plans for his upcoming coronation, harrison was utterly swamped with tasks. the man was working practically day and night to organise the entire thing with his mother, so much so that he barely had time for you and your angel of a daughter.
the two of you had spent the morning in the flower garden, letting the girl admire all the pretty colours and flowers while you explained what they were. she would try and say the names back to you, struggling due to her difficulty to pronounce certain letters, but for a three year old you’d say she did well.
“mumma?” she asked, sitting herself down rather carelessly next to you. you hummed, brushing some of her hair out of her eyes, smiling down at your precious baby girl. “c-can i take to daddy?”
she held up a flower she’d picked from somewhere, a lily to be specific, with a hopeful look in her eyes.
you took into account how stressed harrison had been, rather than how busy he was, and decided to let the girl go.
“yeah, come on, angel.” you took her free hand in yours, guiding her through the flower beds until you reached the doors of the palace. it was chaos inside, what with everyone rushing about the place trying to make everything perfect, so in order to not get her lost in the crowds you lifted delilah up into your arms.
you were outside the ‘office’ area of the palace in no time, the place where you would most likely find the prince. you didn’t knock, instead very gently pushing open the door to try and not create too much noise.
delilah was wriggling in your arms, almost demanding to be put down so she could run to her dad.
“daddy, daddy!” she said, toddling over to him with a large grin. “i got you this,” she announced, holding the flower in her outstretched arm towards him. he didn’t even look up from the paper he was reading, making your heart ache a little bit at the clear disappointment on your bub’s face.
“that’s lovely, lilah.” he didn’t sound interested at all, the small girl bringing the flower closer to herself in a defeated way.
“daddy, it-it’s for you-“ harrison let out a huff, turning to her with a not so happy look on his face. “i’m busy, can’t you see that.”
you saw how delilah’s bottom lip began to wobble, the girl running to you without hesitation before she let out a sob in the presence of her father. you scooped her up into your arms without an issue, kissing her head and quietly shushing the poor angel.
he eventually looked up when you slammed the door behind you, sighing when he realised his stupid mistake.
harrison left his duties to someone else for a few minutes, just for long enough that he could go and apologise to his angel.
he found you first, standing by the door of delilah’s room after she told you she wanted to be alone. your heart ached, wanting nothing more to hold her tight and protect her from all the sadness she was feeling.
“is she in there?” he asked, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder to get your attention. you sighed, nodding your head and stepping back from the door so he was able to pull it open.
he saw her sitting on her bed sulking, kicking her legs and refusing to look up at the door even when she heard those footsteps getting closer to her.
“hi, angel,” he greeted, taking a seat next to her on the bed. after a few minutes of silence, of which you watched from the doorway, harrison took matters into his own hands.
he sat her on his knee, gently stroking her hair and placing a burst of kisses all over her face to try and get her laughing. it did work for a few seconds, the unable to do anything but giggle at the funny feeling until she realised she was meant to be mad at the prince.
he saw how her mood changed and he frowned, laying his cheek against the top of her head.
“daddy didn’t mean to, i’m sorry sweetheart.” he ended up picking up the flower from off of the girls bed, sliding it behind his ear and grinning at the toddler. you smiled softly, heart fluttering at the precious sight.
“what d’you think?”
“you look so pretty, daddy!” she cheered. and just like that his little princess was happy again.
