A/N: I’ve been working on this for a while, I really hope you guys like it. It’s going to be alternating views for each part. This part is Yoongi, next is Y/n. I chose guys from other bands to be his brothers, and I chose people I thought looked at least a little like they were related. I really hope you guys like it, idk if I could stand this being a flop.
Yoongi drew designs on the window panes, knowing that in just a little while she would wake up and rush to see what he had drawn before the sun came and destroyed the delicate designs that she loved. He loved this time of year, especially in this part of the kingdom. His secret morning conversations with the princess.
Her face appeared on the other side of the glass, looking tired. Pale.
She visibly sighed, looking over the incomplete design that he didn’t dare finish now that she was awake earlier than normal. She had bags under her eyes, and her nose was red. Her hair a mess around her shoulders instead of the loose braid she normally wore. She also held a blanket around her shoulders like a cape.
He frowned a bit, able to see that she was sick, and wishing he could fix it. But he couldn’t.
She touched the pane, making a clear spot in the middle of some of the thicker frost.
Yoongi almost pressed his own hand to the glass as her body was wracked with coughs that he could hear through the glass, so intense that she was crouched on the floor gasping for breath.
Maids came rushing in, some helping her up and back to the bed while another snapped the heavy curtains shut, shutting Yoongi off from the princess he had grown up with.
He floated to the ground, frowning at the grass as he walked toward the forest.
“Winter can’t come fast enough,” One of the gardeners was saying as they group headed toward the orchard. “I heard the princess caught that illness, the one that witch created. Only extreme cold has been able to stop it.
Yoongi winced as they walked through him, looking after them as the two that walked through him shivered.
“Well, looks like the frost-man has been here. Might get that cold sooner rather than later this year. Otherwise someone might have to take the princess to Old Man Winter, and she’d never come back from that. Everyone knows he’s trying to find princesses for the Frost Princes.”
“Really? Well, they’re the closest kingdom anyway. The others are a couple days sailing after a two week trek through Bomnal Pass, which is in the snow kingdom anyway. Be nice to have a sort of alliance with them. Might make traveling through easier.”
“But, they’re not exactly human, are they?”
“Not our problem. The Princess will die otherwise. She’s the youngest daughter anyway. It’s probably the best she could do.”
Yoongi had heard enough, taking to the air and heading back to the castle.
His older brother, Yesung, was waiting on the balcony to Yoongi’s room.
Yoongi touched down and knew he was in for a talking to.
But Yesung didn’t say a word, looking out at their world, glistening in frost.
“Hyung?” Yoongi asked, a little nervous.
“Hiding,” He explained. “Delegation from the Desert Isles.”
Yoongi shuddered. “Where’s Jaebum and Yeonjun?”
Yesung flipped up a sheet of ice, then flicked it away to shatter on the ground below. “On their way. Where have you been?”
“Our neighbor’s kingdom. It’s frost season there.”
“You went and saw her again, didn’t you?” Yesung sighed, shaking his head.
“Hyung,” Yoongi started, hearing how small his voice had gotten. “She has the summer sickness.”
Yesung looked at him, standing up straight and turning to lean against the rail instead. “That’s the one where they die without cold?”
Yoongi nodded.
Jaebum and Yeonjun came into Yoongi’s room without knocking, both looking slightly terrified.
“They had to go to the hearth-room, and the prince was throwing a fit,” Yeonjun explained, looking apologetic. “But I got a letter from Hyunjoon. He’s going to be home next week for break, then go back to finish, then be home for winter solstice.”
“Good, it’s about time he came home.” Jaebum came out and leaned on the balcony looking out. “Feels warmer today.”
Yoongi wasn’t sure, but he had just come from a warmer place entirely. “Hwall say anything about how he was doing at the academy?”
“Father told us he was graduating at breakfast,” Yesung informed him, a hint of reproach in his voice. “Jaebum covered for you. Again.”
Yoongi nodded, meeting Jaebum’s gaze and dipping his head in thanks to his younger brother.
Yeonjun was still smiling. “How is the southern kingdom?”
“The princess has Yeolbing Fever,” Yesung said dryly. “Which means it’s only a matter of time before we either have to pay our respects, or we’ll be welcoming them to our kingdom. And then one of you will be marrying her. Father will be pleased if that does happen. Might send an invitation beforehand.”
“What about you?” Yeonjun asked.
Yesung looked at Yeonjun, then met Yoongi’s gaze. “The King of Godeuleum is to marry a princess of the Ice Mountains. My mother was an Ice Princess. My wife will be as well.” Yesung didn’t look at them as he said that.
Yeonjun’s gaze fell.
Yoongi knew his oldest brother meant nothing by it, just pointing out the tradition of the kingdom. But it was another reminder that Yoongi and his three younger brothers were all born from a woman that the kingdom didn’t see as a proper queen. They were respected, but it was very clear that Yesung was the crown prince. The younger brothers would earn respect by doing things that would make the kingdom prosper. The age gap was the biggest issue between the brothers. And Yoongi had taken the brunt of any sort of backlash from the citizens of their kingdom, carefully protecting his younger brothers however he could.
“Then maybe we should propose inviting the princess for that intent to father. He would like our initiative.” Jaebum let a hand drop on Yeonjun’s shoulder.
“He would question where we got the information,” Yesung countered stoically.
“Then we don’t tell him about her being ill, we just suggest that there could be a benefit in making an alliance with the only country we share a border with,” Yoongi proposed. “If I’m right, then by the time our message arrives at their castle by traditional courier—which father prefers—they’ll be desperate to cure her. She’s the third princess of the kingdom and sixth in line for the throne. An alliance with our kingdom would be to their advantage.”
“You cannot propose it, he’ll know where you’ve been,” Yesung said, shrugging a little.
“He knows I’m studying geography, I could ask him about her kingdom,” Yeonjun offered, glancing toward Yesung for approval.
“Or Jaebum could suggest it since he’s been reviewing our current treaties and past alliances,” Yoongi suggested instead. “Father would know we were planning this if you brought it up suddenly.”
Jaebum nodded. “I’ll do it. It’ll be natural since we know that Hyunjoon is coming home after the winter-solstice, and that maybe makes us think that we should start thinking about marriage. He will have a problem with you not being married first, though, Yesung-hyung.”
He nodded curtly. “Give me a week. I’ll head up the Ice Mountains.”
Yoongi felt a little bit of relief and excitement. “Thank you, hyung.”
His older brother shook his head. “Don’t thank me yet. She has to survive to get here. And who knows who she’ll end up with.”
Yoongi dipped his head as his brother passed, exiting his room, but he felt a strange sort of happiness. He had an advantage. Y/n was one of his oldest friends, after all.

This is a fic describing the first kiss of Prince Jaebum and his assassin guard~
You stopped in front of the prince’s tent and cleared your throat, hoping to get his attention.
“My lord,” you said, waiting for a reply. There was a moment of silence before Jaebum spoke.
“You may enter,” he called from inside the tent.
The two of you had been travelling for a while to get to a nearby city, keeping off the road as much as you could. You finally reached the outskirts and had insisted on going to check it out before letting the prince go in order to make sure it was safe for him. To your surprise, the city had been extremely lively and was filled with kind people that continuously asked if you were okay or if you were lost.
You managed to obtain information from one of the elders in town and were about to take your leave when he handed you a bottle. You were surprised at first, but he assured you that it was a custom to give those kinds of gifts to new friends in the city. You had taken it with suspicion but simply thanked him and headed back to where you and Jaebum had made camp.
“What news do you have?” he asked when you entered. He had let his long hair down and it framed is sharp face nicely. You sat cross-legged before him and pulled out your bag.
“The citizens are all in good health. The town seems to be wealthy and, at least at the moment, there don’t seem to be any disturbances,” you said. “Also, some of the older men said that the leader of the town hall would be making an announcement tomorrow afternoon about the new water supply system. I think it’s worth going,” you added. Jaebum nodded at your information.
“We’ll have to go and see what it’s about tomorrow,” he said. His brow furrowed as his gaze shifted to the bag in your hand. “What is that?” he asked, curiously. You reached in and pulled out the alcohol, looking at the beautiful bottle. There were no words or markings on it and nothing to tell what was inside.
“It was given to me by one of the village elders. I believe he gave it with good intentions, but I’m still a bit wary myself,” you said, tutting your tongue. Jaebum reached out and you handed it to him. He gave the bottle a good looking over and then popped the top off with a satisfying ‘pop’. You watched as he inhaled the liquor and took a deep breath.
“It smells…familiar,” he said, staring at the bottle. His mind looked far away, as if he was trying to place the smell. You reached over and took it from his hands to which you received a frown from him. You smelled it yourself and hummed.
“It doesn’t smell like any poison I’ve ever smelled,” you mumbled. You brought to bottle to your lips and let just the tiniest bit of liquid flow into your mouth. You could feel Jaebum’s eyes on you as you let the alcohol swirl in your mouth. Eventually you swallowed, relishing in the feeling of the warmth in your stomach.
“I don’t think it’s poisonous,” you said, taking another small sip. “It’s quite strong though,” you said, coughing as the alcohol burned your throat. Jaebum watched you intently but then reached his hand out once more for you to give him the bottle. You hesitated at first but then gave it to him.
Once again, he took a deep breath of the liquor before bringing it to his own lips and tasting it. His gulp was significantly bigger than yours and you marveled at his ability to withstand the alcohol content. You might be an assassin, but that didn’t change the fact that you had a small alcohol tolerance.
“I know this drink,” Jaebum whispered, taking another small sip. “My father used to drink it often when I was younger. It’s a very rare alcohol. I doubt the man that had it in his possession knew its worth,” he said, smirking lightly. You hummed and reached for the bottle, taking a bigger sip and letting the liquid work it’s magic.
“Do you think we should give it back and tell him?” you asked. As soon as the words left your mouth you realized how ridiculous they sounded. The liquor must have been affecting you faster than you expected it to. You glanced at Jaebum for his reaction but he simply shook his head.
“No, it was cause too much attention. Best to just enjoy it while we can,” he said, chuckling as he took the bottle from your hands and drank more.
You went back and forth for a while, discussing the journey and everything it entailed. Every time you took another sip of the alcohol, you felt your walls crumble and your inhibitions disappear. You weren’t sure if Jaebum was experiencing the same thing, but as his words began to slur and he began to teeter back and forth in his seated position, you figured that it was.
“How did she even become the palace maid in the first place?” Jaebum asked, chuckling as you laughed hard. “She’s so clumsy,” he added, making you hold onto your stomach in fits of laughter.
“I don’t know….but one time…she spilled wine…on the queen,” you explained, between gasps of air. Jaebum let out a booming laugh as he leaned against you for support.
“I remember that! Mother was upset for the rest of the evening!” he exclaimed, grinning and laughing at the memory. You tried to suppress your laughs, but you were smiling too wide and couldn’t. Your vision had long since been blurry and now it took all of your focus just to look at Jaebum’s face.
There was a moment of silence as you stared at him and he stared at the ground in front of him. Your laughter subsided and through your hazy drunkenness, you could feel the atmosphere tighten.
“Y/N?” Jaebum asked, still looking down at his hands in his lap. You leaned your head into the crook of his neck and sighed, closing your eyes as the room spun before you.
“Yes, my prince?” you asked, with a breathy voice. Never in a million years would you ever imagine that you would be in this position with the prince. If you were sober you would never have dared to touch him let alone lean into him like this. Jaebum must have felt the alcohol too because he did not push you aside, nor did he threaten to execute you (something he often playfully did when you annoyed him).
“Do you think…” he said, looking up towards the top of the tent. “Do you think that I’ll become a good king?” he asked, barely above a whisper. You stared in front of you for a few moment, gathering yourself before turning towards him.
It was then that you realized how extremely close his face was.
If you moved even two inches forward, your lips would be touching his cheek. You stared at his sharp jawline, aweing at it as you brought your fingers up to his chin. You brought his face to yours, the liquid confidence burning in your stomach, and stared into his eyes.
“Jaebum,” you whispered, falling deeply into his big, warm eyes. “I think you are going to be one of the best kings our country has ever had,” you said, honestly. Jaebum stared at you, his expression unchanged. Now that he was facing you, your lips were only inches away and that thought alone made your heart pound in your chest.
You dropped your hands from his chin and were about to turn away when he suddenly reached out and grabbed your cheeks in his big, rough hands. He pulled you forward onto him and you fell over on top of him with your lips pressed against his own.
You were not surprised and instead melted into the kiss willingly. You felt his arms drop down around your waist as you laid on top of him, your hands bringing themselves up to his hair as you kissed him hard. He kissed you more passionately than you had ever been kissed in your life and once you broke for air, you only gasped once before pressing your lips back on to his.
He let out a small groan and flipped you over so that you were laying on your side facing him. You continued to kiss him as the kisses became shorter and sweeter. You snuggled farther into his arms and put a hand on his chest as he held onto you tightly, as if afraid to lose you. Somehow or another, you felt sleep overtake you and you closed your eyes, listening to the sound of Jaebum’s heartbeat.
The next morning you awoke with a start, clutching your head in your hands. You moaned in pain and fell back down, trying to quell your headache.
“Too much to drink?” a voice called out. You peaked one eye open and groaned at Jaebum who was sitting in the corner with a smirk on his lips, drinking water. You sat up once more and held your head as you reached for your own flask of water.
“What happened?” you asked, groggily. Jaebum chuckled and bent down to pick up the empty bottle of alcohol.
“You drank the entire bottle,” he snapped. At his words your eyes widened and you frowned.
“No, no! Don’t blame this on me! We drank the whole bottle. It wasn’t just me,” you shot back, drinking your water deeply.
“As my personal guard, I’m disappointed that you didn’t stop me from drinking it when you should have,” he berated, massaging his own temples.
“Well, I’m sorry,” you said, sarcastically. “But once you started reminiscing about how it was your ‘father’s favorite drink’ you didn’t really give me much time to stop you!” you exclaimed. Jaebum pursed his lips and then cleared his throat.
“Well, you didn’t have to drink it with me,” he stated, trying to retain his dignity. This only made you let out a short laugh.
“You told me that I had to drink ‘by order of the prince’,” you said, mimicking his voice. Jaebum rolled his eyes and looked down at his flask.
“I don’t sound like that,” he mumbled. There was a moment of pause as you tried to rmemeber the events that took place last night, but everything seemed to be one massive blur. You brought the bottle, then you tasted it, then you began talking about things, then….
Wait.
He had asked you something. It was something important. What had it been? And what happened after that? Did you just fall asleep? No…you remember your heart beating fast. Because of what? What happened? You stole a glance at Jaebum but the latter was leafing through a book in his hands.
“Did you…” you began, causing Jabeum to glance up briefly.
“Did I what?” he asked, sharply. You looked down at your hands, trying to remember what had happened.
You had been nervous. Why? Because he was so close. Why? Because you had leaned into him. Why? Because you were inches away. And? And then he…had he really…
“Did we…” you began again. Jaebum gave you an annoyed groan.
“If you have something to ask me, ask it. Stop making all of these half statements,” he stated, glaring at you from his stool. You took a deep breath and began again.
“After we drank the bottle and talked about your father and the maid and all, what happened?” you asked, straight to the point. Jaebum stared at his book for a moment and then closed it with a sigh.
“I don’t remember anything either, Y/N,” he stated, annoyance in his voice. Whether it was directed at you or at himself, you were unsure, but you decided it didn’t matter.
“Alright, then let’s forget it,” you said, clearing your throat and standing up. “We have a long day ahead of us and there’s no point in getting held down by things we don’t remember,” you added, grabbing your daggers and looking at them closely, trying not to look at Jaebum.
You heard him grunt in agreement and you decided not to think about it anymore. If it was anything of importance, Jaebum would mention it again in due time. Until then, you had a job to do.

A/N: Yay! It’s over! Hope you guys like the ending!
“Go,” Yeonjun said, pushing Yoongi a bit.
“What?! No.”
“You have to dance with her,” Yeonjun replied.
Jaebum nodded. “He’s right. You have to. She’s waiting for you, so don’t make her wait too long. You know how to dance, so go dance. Or I will.”
Yoongi winced. “Push me again.”
Both of them pushed him and he headed across the ballroom to where she stood.
Princess Y/n was wearing a dress that stood-out among the courtiers, but in the best way. She looked unreal. Beautiful. A summer rose surrounded by opaque ice, brilliant and beautiful and so very different from the bride that no one could possibly be upset with her about possibly looking more beautiful than the bride.
And if anyone was upset with her, well, Yoongi would happily show them why they’re wrong.
Her carefully crafted expression of pleasure melted into one of true happiness as she noticed his approach, and she dropped a slight curtsy so gracefully. “Prince Yoongi.”
“Princess, may I have the pleasure of claiming the next dance?” Yoongi asked, trying to banish all evidence of his nervousness. He was confident. He was royal and regal and he already knew she would say yes because everything pointed toward her saying yes.
But if she said no….
She nodded her assent. “Of course…my prince.”
He met her gaze, heart pounding. Her prince? He was her prince? He felt warm all over with the way she was looking at him. “A-are you enjoying yourself?” She was too much for him. How was she so effortless?
“Yes, my prince. The ceremony was beautiful, I’m quite pleased for both of them. They are an excellent match,” She replied, amusement sparkling in her gaze. She offered her hand.
He took it, automatically bringing it up to kiss it, and pretending he wasn’t frightfully aware of just how much she was finding amusement in his flustered actions.
She looked down and away. “Perhaps we could…dance outside instead?”
He looked outside, then at her, and nodded, offering his arm to her as a gentleman should.
She took it, quiet as he led the way out to the frozen fountain.
He quickly removed his jacket, helping her to don it after she shivered once.
The music drifted from the ballroom to them, and he bowed slightly to her.
She rested her hands lightly on him, one on his hand, the other on the arm that held his hand firmly in place on her shoulder.
They stepped as one.
“So, your eldest brother has wed an ice princess. What now?” She asked, still gazing at him warmly. A gaze that, even with a month of getting to know one another and seeing such a look, made him feel as though she could bring the melting of snow. She could warm the world.
Yoongi took a deep breath, trying to figure out what to say. She said she needed time to think about his proposal, even if they had both been talking light-heartedly, but she had also started trying to actively adapt to live in his country. She ventured into the nearest towns and villages, she spoke with his brothers and formed a strong bond with Eira. She sat beside him in the parlor after dinner, and even if they didn’t speak so much privately they still communicated so often (her eloquently and him a stumbling, mumbling mess) that he felt as though there had never been a pane of glass between them in all the years he had known her.
He still left frost paintings on her window each morning, but now she would come and thank him for them. Compliment them.
She looked so happy when she saw him.
“Now…I suppose I ask you again.”
“Ask me what again?” She asked, head tilting slightly.
“Do you think you could love a prince as cold as frost, a prince of ice?” He asked, nervous. She was a good dancer, what if he stepped on her feet? Had he already done so while trying to decide what to say?
She was quiet, staring over his shoulder for a minute at the fountain. “Cold and ice are what saved my life, and cured me of the fever. The physicians in my country apply ice to certain injuries, especially bruising. A friend showed me that winter can be a time of fun, with skating and snowmen—and I think I’ve gotten involved in four or five snow-ball fights with your youngest brothers since arriving here,” She laughed out, meeting his eyes again. “The cold isn’t necessarily bad, just as warmth isn’t necessarily good. So, yes. I think I very well could love a frost prince. Especially my Jack Frost.”
He swallowed hard.
She laughed again and shook her head. “Silly prince.” Then she leaned in and pressed a light kiss to his lips.
He felt like the world would melt, and was certain he was melting as well. He stared at her after the kiss, not knowing what to say.
She shook her head again, then rested her head on his shoulder. “Are you going to ask?”
“Will you marry me, Princess Y/n?”
“Yes, Yoongi.”
He melted a little more, wrapping his arms around her.
“I will marry you, Yoongi,” She whispered, looking up at him so softly. There was some nervousness in her eyes, but he understood it. She’d already left everything she knew when she came here to be cured. Now she was giving everything she had left to him. “But only if you continue painting my windows in the morning.”
He grinned, leaning down to meet her lips. “I think I can manage that.”
She rested her head on his shoulder again, eyes closed as they swayed a little to the music.
Yoongi saw his brothers peeking out and grinned at them.
The youngest two threw their fists to the air in victory, while the oldest two simply smiled.
The garden came alive with magic from all of the brothers, and Yoongi drew Y/n’s attention to it.
Her eyes lit up in wonder, gazing around at the beauty of the frozen garden.
Yoongi thought he would do anything to keep that look of wonder and happiness on her face. She was his summer rose in the eternal winter of his kingdom. She had all of the warmth he could ever want and need.

A/N: I wanted to post something else because the ALBUM SDFKSKFKDL. But this all I’ve got that’s ready to be posted and I want to finish this, and then I have a third part to DTLW, plus drabble requests in my inbox, a second part to Different Skin, and more Treasured Hoard.
You were surprised at how easy it was to become comfortable in the castle, but some things reminded you of how different it was.
Like how Yeonjun’s hair would go from silvery to black to sometimes blue from day to day, or when you got hit in the face with a magic snowball when you walked into the library one morning and the youngest two hadn’t seen you enter, or when you saw frost spreading around any of the princes. The way their skin always felt like ice, even when warming themselves by the fire.
And the fact that the frozen flowers out in the ‘garden’ were still growing. Never as large as those in your country, obviously, but they still grew, new frozen blossoms appearing even after the staff have harvested bouquets.
The town felt cozy, the people seemed warm and inviting….
To Eira and Yesung.
They were a little chillier with Yoongi, but they hid it well around you, and seemed to take his presence as a silent threat not to treat the youngest three in that way since they were greeted almost as warmly as Yesung.
“I am…surprised at the behavior your people display towards you,” You said, walking with Yoongi to the frozen fountain in the center of the town square. Was there something about him that you didn’t see yet?
He shrugged. “I would rather they treat me like that than Yeonjun or Hyunjoon. They’re so young, to be rejected by our people would hurt them. It was only because our mother, my father’s second wife, was not a princess from the ice mountains. Yesung’s mother was.”
“Oh? And how would one of you marrying me affect their opinion of all of you?”
He frowned, looking away. “It benefits the country, an alliance with yours. It’s only traditional for the future king to marry an ice princess. Not the other princes.” He met your gaze and offered a shy smile. “Not to mention the wedding of any prince leads to extra business in the towns, and are always cause for feasts throughout the kingdom, paid for by the royal family. I earned every ounce of respect that they give me now. And I’m sure they will grow to love you quickly. I’ve heard tales from your kingdom about how well your people love you.”
You looked up at him, and again had such a sense of déjà vu. But this time you could place it. A young boy, showing you how to skate and laughing when you worried the ice was too thin. Building snowmen with you and introducing you to all of the village kids, though they never seemed to know him.
His eyebrows came together and he looked curiously at you. “Everything okay?”
“You…remind me of someone…” You replied, looking up at him. “From my childhood. We called him Jack, because he seemed to know a little bit about everything. Everyone in town called him Jack Frost.”
He was immediately nervous, looking away. “Oh?”
You smiled, looking away. “Your drawings have gotten better over the years.”
He looked at you, surprised.
You shook your head. “Do you honestly think that I wouldn’t recognize the only friend I had for several years? Or that I wouldn’t notice that all of your brothers fully intended for me to marry you? Or the way you’ve ensured that I have flowers from home in my sitting room every morning? The maids know everything,” You added when you saw his surprised expression. “And I don’t think Eira knows how to lie just yet.”
He cracked a smile. “She really doesn’t.” But he still looked so shy.
You looked around, then stood again. “Yoongi, could you show me some of the hidden places of your country?”
He tilted his head, but offered you his arm. “I could show you the caves.”
You smiled and nodded.
He led you to the horses, helping you up and then getting his own horse, leading the way. He was quiet, always somewhat quiet, though you had seen how he could get goofy and loud with all of his brothers when they were all having a snowball fight in the ballroom. But his quiet was comfortable to you. Companionable.
He led you through snow drifts and frozen forests to a lake that wasn’t quite frozen before dismounting.
You dismounted as well, looking around the frozen world surrounding you. You’d asked him to show you places around his country, wanting to get to know him better if they were intending for you to marry him, but also wanting to know the countryside. Where you could escape.
He bowed slightly, offering you a hand.
You took it, noticing that the snow was deep, and allowed him to help you through the snow drifts and into frozen caves.
He guided you around icicles that reached from the cave ceiling to the floor.
You dropped his hand turning to the cave wall and touching the ice, feeling the cold through your gloves. “It’s beautiful.”
“I suppose so,” He answered, sounding uncertain.
You turned to him, finding him staring at you with a strange expression on his face. You dismissed your curiosity at his thoughts, gesturing around you. “The way the light glints and shines, and how is it warmer in here than out there? I can’t imagine it always is, because obviously it gets cold enough to freeze all of this. Maybe because of the wind?”
He nodded, looking around. “The wind has to be at a certain angle to get in here. Build a fire in here, and it would warm up fairly well. It probably wouldn’t melt that—” He gestured to the wall of icicles that had merged together, blocking part of the entrance. “Yesung-hyung used to tell us that an ice-dragon made its home here for years, and that the walls of this cave weren’t stone, but ice so thick that it looked like stone, burying the hibernating dragon so deeply, that should he ever awaken and try to shake the bonds of ice that have covered him, he would be stuck for decades before he broke loose. Would warn us not to wake the dragon by being loud. Really, he just didn’t want our nannies to find us for a while and that meant keeping us quiet.”
You smiled. “I read once that the magic of this country came from ice dragons that settled here to hibernate for a season, but they slept too long. Then one of their daughters that hadn’t made the journey with them, came searching, and when she found them sleeping forever, she was so distraught that she turned herself into magic dust in the well-spring of Godeuleum—the oldest spring in the country—and she flowed down the mountain and covered her family, preserving them for eternity in ice. And now, the waters from that spring flow under the ground, unseen and untouched by all….” You turned to him. “Except the royal family. It’s said that the waters gave them the powers to care for the people of this land. The residual magic from the spring grows the crops of the people, adapting them to climate of the land, but the waters are only consumed by the royal family, and the ice-princesses of the mountains.”
Yoongi was smiling. “Yes, that is one of the legends of our country.”
A smile looked good on him. Everything looked good on him. One thing the princes had going for them was that they were all very handsome, but you thought Yoongi was the handsomest.
“Any truth in the legends?” You asked, smiling as you studied the gentleness in his eyes.
He looked away, still smiling. “You’d have to marry me to find out.”
You turned away, studying the blue of the cave. “I will consider it. Give me time to think over the offer?”

A/N: Second part posted as my soul leaves my bodies and winter semester slump sets in.
You stood tall, despite feeling like you were about to drop dead. You had no choice.
“Presenting Princess Y/n, second daughter of the kingdom of Cierova,” The man announcing you to the royal family of Godeuleum continued to drone on and on about your lineage.
You resisted the urge to roll your eyes. They knew who you were. They had invited you. You just wanted to shut his mouth and make this supposedly essential greeting go more quickly. You wanted to lay down. The cold felt amazing, but the journey had exhausted you and you had been ill for quite some time now.
“We welcome you, Princess, we were sorry to hear of your illness. I’ve had our healers prepare a room for you to recover in before we discuss treaties,” Crown Prince Yesung said the moment the man stopped to draw breath. “I’m sure you’re exhausted. Jisoo will lead you to your room directly and my brothers and father will greet you when you are recovered and ready to meet them.” He had a soft smile that was kind as he gestured toward a maid.
You curtsied, but lost your balance.
“Careful,” A different voice said, catching your arms and supporting you with hands so cold you could feel it through the sleeves of your dress.
You closed your eyes, feeling dizzy, but when you opened them you were looking at dark blue silk, embroidered with black. Pale hands carefully gripping your arms and holding you steady, long fingers that looked oddly attractive.
You managed to look up at the face of the one who assisted you.
He was breathtaking.
You shook your head, trying to clear the delirious thoughts, but caught a glimpse of the crown on his head. “I apologize, I think…”
He released one arm, and pressed his icy hand to your forehead. “Your fever has risen again. Jisoo, get her to her room. I’ll send the healers directly.”
“Yes, Prince Yoongi,” The maid that must have been Jisoo said, curtsying to him before his older brother. She came and supported you as he carefully released your arms. “This way, Princess.”
You let her lead you away, glancing back at the icy prince who had caught you, and his brother. There was something almost familiar about him.
Not that you saw much of anyone for the next few days, too busy getting treated, feeling more alive as you limbs went numb from cold than you had in the past two months since you’d contracted that confounding illness. It gave you time to adjust, really. Time to come to terms with the fact that you would most likely spend the rest of your life here, married to one of the princes. You knew it wouldn’t be the eldest, Yesung, because he was recently betrothed to some princess from an even icier kingdom than Godeumleum—Princess Eira. But the king had three other sons of marriageable age, though you knew the one was on the much younger edge of being old enough to marry. And then there was the youngest son, who was apparently away at school.
You found yourself at the window one morning after the fever broke, looking out, but then noticing the designs in the frost on the pains.
You grinned and carefully examined it. You hadn’t seen the designs of your frost-friend in a long time. Not since that morning a while back, when the design had been incomplete and you’d been unable to keep yourself standing. You hadn’t been able to check the windows since, too ill. You were honestly surprised you were even able to stand upright on your own while initially being welcomed to the kingdom by Prince Yesung.
Your frost friend had drawn flowers and trees, a little frost landscape. You sighed happily, glad that whoever it was hadn’t completely abandoned you anyway. It made sense that they’d be here as well, since this was the kingdom of all things cold. The Kingdom of Old Man Winter and his Frost Princes, of Ice Princesses from the highest and coldest of mountains, and snow during all seasons of the year.
It was probably a good thing you liked winter as much as you did. You learned how to skate as a child, and had continued practicing as you grew. You’d helped the children of the capitol city make snowmen, and you frequently took your horse for a brief canter through the winter woods. You conversed with ice fishermen. Then you would go home and curl up with your furs next to the hearth fire, drinking tea and hoping all of the townsfolk were warm through the night. You didn’t have power, or access to any sort of money—your mother had been making all of the purchases for you—and the townsfolk knew it. They knew you couldn’t help them as you would like when you would bring the children food you had pilfered from the castle kitchens to try and help those you knew were struggling. They knew when you would “lose” a scarf that you had wrapped around a child that looked too cold, or a hat that you had shoved onto the head of a maiden that looked chilled to the bone.
You were always warmly welcomed in the village. As the youngest of six you were left much to your own devices, frequently absconding to the towns and villages to check their welfare.
But now, marrying one of the princess of this kingdom would be the best way you could aid your own kingdom. It would result in better trade agreements, ease travel through the mountain regions, and you wouldn’t be a burden to your kingdom’s finances any longer.
You dressed in one of your favorite gowns with the help of the maids, then exited your room for the first time in a week. You were to dine with the royal family, and the dress was more than appropriate, however you started doubting your choice as you noticed most people wearing clothes in blues, purples, whites, blacks, browns, and some greens—meanwhile you stood out in your pale pink gown. It wasn’t even that bright, and yet you felt as though you were standing out in such a terrible way.
“Y/n?”
You looked toward the voice, seeing another woman with a delicate tiara on her head, pale as snow.
She dropped a slight curtsy and you mimicked it, shaking a little. “It is a pleasure to meet you, I am Eira, of the Ice Mountains. It is good to see you are well, and we are happy you are to join us this evening. Shall we walk to the hall together?”
You nodded, smiling a little and taking her arm. “Sorry, I am still a little shaky on my own feet.”
“Of course you are, you have been so very ill. I am so sorry. That must have been hard, especially so far from family. But you look wonderful, and that dress is astounding on you. An excellent choice,” She said.
You wondered if she was buttering you up. Nobody was this nice.
“We should have lunch together, the family usually have duties that go through midday meals, but I could use the company. I am so accustomed to being surrounded by the women of the mountains all the time and here I am surrounded by men, but now that you are here, perhaps we can find some sort of common ground over a meal together?” She looked at you with such genuine friendliness that you knew that she was being honest. About everything. Her compliments, her invitation, everything. It reminded you of something one of your childhood friends used to tell you, that only black ice knew how to lie.
“I think that sounds lovely, I could bring my embroidery,” You replied, smiling back and feeling a little better.
She visibly brightened, her smile becoming dazzling. “Oh! Yes, that would be excellent! I could work on lace and you could embroider and we could just enjoy one another’s company! Oh, I am so glad to have another woman here.”
You giggled, squeezing her arm. “I can tell.”
“Oh! Yeonjun! Have you met Princess Y/n?” Eira called to a young man that was talking to a guard.
He looked over and smiled, bowing as you curtsied. “I have not, but it is a pleasure to meet you, Princess. I’m glad to see you’re feeling better. My father is eager to meet you at last.”
You curtsied again, feeling a little shy at the thought of meeting the king. You’d heard so many legends about him, and you wondered how many were true.
Yeonjun offered both of you his arms, and you both took one, allowing him to escort both of you in. You could tell that he was too young for you, kind and definitely would be a sweet brother, but altogether too young. Still, his kindness warmed you.
The King stood to greet you, gesturing for you to take a seat right away. “I would hate to keep you on your feet, I know you are still recovering. We are mightily pleased to have you here with us, Princess. You are most welcome. It’s high time that a treaty came about between our two countries, seeing as you’re our only neighbors.”
“I believe both of our kingdoms could greatly benefit from an alliance as well,” You agreed quietly. “I am happy to be here, and thank you for your hospitality. Without it, I fear I would have been much worse.”
“Someday that blasted disease will be cured, but we’re glad we were able to help you so quickly. You have met my eldest son, Yesung, and my second youngest, Yeonjun, but may I introduce my second eldest son, Yoongi, and my third eldest, Jaebum, and my youngest, Hyunjoon.”
You dipped your head since the king had been quite insistent on you sitting. “A pleasure, gentleman.”
“And you’ve met Princess Eira.”
You smiled toward the woman, nodding. “We have met, yes.”
She grinned back at you from beside Prince Yesung. “She has charming manners, my king. I approve of her very much.” She sat as Yesung pulled her chair for her.
“I believe there are very few of whom you do not approve, my dear,” Yesung said, the affection palpable in his voice as he gently pushed her chair in once more. He sat beside her, the King on his other side.
Yoongi sat next, then Jaebum, then the youngest two seemed to sit at the same time. You were across from Prince Yesung, but Yoongi sat beside you.
The youngest started telling the King about some of his activities from school and you glanced at Yoongi beside you.
“I was unable to thank you for catching me when I first arrived,” You said softly, knowing you were allowed to have your own conversations since Jaebum, Eira, and Yesung were chatting with each other.
He shook his head slightly. “You should have been shown directly to a room to recover. You are feeling better?”
You nodded. “Yes, thank you.”
He smiled softly, just barely, but it felt strangely warm for a frost prince. “Good. Once you’re fully recovered, I could show you the town.”
“That would be lovely, thank you.” You thought it strange that the one you’d heard had the coldest demeanor was so…friendly? Maybe they had it wrong.
Yeonjun caught your attention, striking up a conversation where you told him about summer activities in response to his curiosity about what one did in “extreme” heat.
You were very aware of the presence beside you, watching you casually, listening. It felt…so familiar. Again. But you couldn’t quite put your finger on why, but it excited you.

A/N: Next part tomorrow since I have a long weekend!
Yoongi watched y/n talk brightly with Eira, his soon to be sister-in-law. They appeared to be getting along famously.
“I thought you said she was considered the second-prettiest daughter?” Hyunjoon asked, joining him and Jaebum.
Yoongi shrugged. “That’s what her people say. I always thought she was prettier than her sisters.”
“I’ve seen her oldest sister before, when she passed through with the king she married. You cannot tell me that she is considered the prettiest.” Jaebum arched an eyebrow at Yoongi.
Yoongi shrugged again.
Jaebum shook his head. “Strange.”
Yeonjun came over with Yesung. “So, what’s the plan? How do we get her and Yoongi-hyung together?”
“Well, the obvious start would be to have them spend as much time as we can manage to throw them together for,” Hyungjoon said, folding his arms.
Yesung nodded as well. “Shouldn’t be difficult to get them time together, I’m more concerned about him blowing it.”
Yoongi looked at the floor, using his shoe to break up the frost that was spreading around him.
Hyunjoon laughed softly. “Aw, he’s nervous!”
“Be careful, Hwall. You may be laughing now, but when it’s your turn with a woman, Yoongi-hyung could very well make your life miserable,” Jaebum warned. “He remembers everything.”
Yesung nodded slowly.
Yeonjun tugged on Yoongi’s arm. “So, hyung, how are you going to woo her?”
“Well, I offered to show her the town once she was well enough, and I figure I could regularly offer to show her around. Jaebum-ah, you’re going to have to pretend to be interested at least.”
“That shouldn’t be hard,” Jaebum replied, looking over with a certain amount of admiration that made Yoongi want to punch his brother. “She seems friendly enough. I’ll see if I can find out anything that would help you.”
Alright, he wouldn’t punch him. But he might make sure his bath was freezing if there was any sort of overstepping. The princes preferred cold in everything but bathing and sleeping. They could stand it, but even Yesung—who was probably the most powerful of the frost princes as the oldest—would be grumpy if his bath was cold, or he had to sleep in a bed that was anything but the perfect temperature. Even Eira brightened and curled up near the hearth sometimes, and she pouted that her room was too cold the first night she slept in the castle.
“I hope she has enough warm clothing,” Yeonjun said softly, looking worriedly over at her after she had sneezed. “It’s cold in the castle, especially for a human.”
“We will ensure that she has everything that she needs to be comfortable, or rather, Yoongi will. Right, little brother?” Yesung was smirking.
Yoongi nodded. “One step at a time, though. First, we make her feel welcome—”
“Because she really is? It was getting boring around here,” Yeonjun sighed.
Yoongi sighed at the interruption but nodded. “Yes. Second, I try to spend as much time as possible with her without overwhelming her. Third, we make sure her and Eira don’t fight because damn, they’re already talking like they’re old friends.”
The other boys followed his gaze to where the two women were whispering before bursting into giggles that they obviously tried to suppress and keep quiet.
“And Yesung…” Eira’s voice carried over just enough to bring the eldest’s name before it was lowered into a whisper again, saying something that had Y/n laughing unashamedly, not bothering trying to conceal it any longer.
Yoongi and his younger brothers tried not to laugh at the partially shocked and partially terrified look on Yesung’s face.
“Why are they talking about me?” He asked, probably himself, but since his brothers were there….
“They’re probably talking about how awkward you are,” Hyunjoon offered.
“Or your cravat being crooked,” Jaebum said.
“Or how awkward you were when you went up into the ice mountains to try and find a wife before Eira took pity on your awkward soul and approached you first and subsequently had you wrapped around her little finger despite also deferring to you as her future king,” Yoongi added, keeping a straight face.
His younger brothers started laughing uncontrollably at the offended look the eldest gave Yoongi.
Yoongi shrugged. “Sorry, hyung.”
Yesung huffed and walked away, soon joined by Eira who had a happy sort of white glow to her now and seemed to quickly set him at ease.
Yoongi watched them together, grateful that his brother had been so lucky in finding her. He deserved someone who could take his cares and worries away so easily, especially as the future king.
Yeonjun was already taking a seat in a chair near y/n, picking up the conversation he had started at dinner. Asking about summer festivals instead.
“Well, what sort of festivals do you all have in the warmer seasons?” She asked instead, smiling at Yoongi as he joined as well.
“Well, there’s the Spring celebration…the snow melts for a few weeks and it helps all the animals during birthing season, and flowers pop up.”
Her eyes widened. “A…few weeks? How do you grow food?”
“There’s more magic here than anywhere else on the island, but most of our food grows despite the snow,” Yoongi explained when Yeonjun looked a little lost for words. “We also have an active trade system on the coast, and with your country, for other foods.”
She nodded, but she still looked distracted. Like a curtain had been pulled in front of her. She looked ill.
“Y/n? Are you well?” He asked gently, worried. He didn’t want her to be sick any longer.
“Yes, um, I think I should retire for the evening.”
“I’ll make sure the maids build up your fire, it is supposed to get very cold this eve,” Yoongi told her. “Do you have enough blankets, do you think?”
She nodded, standing and dropping an appropriate curtsy. “Thank you, I believe I do.”
“Then rest well, Princess,” He said, bowing, probably more than he should have.
Yeonjun looked at him in confusion after she had gone. “What happened? She was fine.”
“I think…we reminded her that she would not be experience summers or springs as she knew them anymore. The problem with Yeolbing Fever is that if she’s exposed to a warmer environment for excessive periods of time, she will fall ill again. And it will be worse. She must live in our country to survive, and we reminded her that she left much behind. At least, I think that is what happened.” Yoongi looked away, out the window and into the cloudy night.
“I will check on her tomorrow, when we dine together. I am certain she will enjoy living here, once she is accustomed,” Eira said brightly. “And we must remember she probably is not accustomed to magic as we are.”
“True, she is very much human while we…are something a little different. It may be quite a lot to wrap her mind around,” Yesung said. “I have some work to do. Good night, brothers. Goodnight, Eira.”
“My prince,” She replied softly. “Walk me to my rooms?”
Yesung smiled, shooting a glare at Yeonjun and Hyunjoon who were pretending to gag.
“Remember, no little snow-babies until after the wedding!” Hyungjoon called after them, getting hit upside the head by Yoongi and Jaebum for doing so.
Yoongi excused himself a while later, heading outside and carefully to her window, painting a new scene in the frost, noticing the glow from behind the curtains that suggested she was still awake. He tried to make his design extra pretty since he’d made her uncomfortable. Like an apology.
He hoped she liked it, but he knew he wouldn’t be able to see her reaction to it since he had to ride out early the next morning for a sort of patrol.

You cussed under your breath as you walked over to the palace. Lately there had been much tension between nearby kingdoms and threats have been made. No blood had been spilt yet, but it was only a matter of time.
There was, however, a muchbigger problem at hand.
You covered up your face with your signature scarf so nobody would know who you were as you crept inside the palace and made your way over to the Jaebum’s quarters. Once you were there, you made a signature knock at the door and waited.
Soon, the guards walked out of the door and headed down the hall, leaving the door unguarded. You hastily walked over and slipped through the door, closing it quietly behind you.
“Y/N, you’re back earlier than I expected,” the prince said with a smirk on his face. However, the moment you turned to face him, his smirk vanished and he furrowed his brow. “What’s wrong?” he asked in a deadly whisper, his mood changing dramatically.
“My lord, I have some bad news,” you stated with a serious face. Jaebum narrowed his eyes and motioned for you to continue. “I believe we have a betrayer in our midst,” you stated, bluntly.
You followed Jaebum’s movements closely as the prince’s face flashed surprise, then confusion, then anger, and then finally on stoic once more.
“A spy?” he asked, already knowing the answer. You nodded shortly and put a hand on your sword.
“Yes,” you stated. “I believe the spy is from one of the nearby Kingdoms.”
“Why do you think someone is betraying us?” Jaebum asked, his voice showing no emotion.
“My lord, yesterday at the council meeting we came up with a number of plans for our country and its citizens. However, my contact in another Kingdom just came to me a few days ago saying that the nearby Kingdom of Aluria would be implementing a plan to counteract our own,” you explained. Jaebum listened intently and once again, motioned for you to continue.
“There’s something else…” you began, but then trailed off. This time, Jaebum looked at you with a questioning look.
“What is it?” he asked. When you didn’t respond, he stood up from his chair and looked down at you. “Y/N, I know we’ve gotten closer over these past months that I have made you my secret personal guard. However…” he started, walking over to you and stopping just in front of you so that he was inches away. “…don’t make the mistake in thinking we are equals,” he whispered, his voice powerful and commanding. “I am your prince and I demand that you tell me the happenings in my own country,”
You looked away from him, not daring to meet his eyes as you sighed deeply.
“I…I have another contact in Aluria as well,” you said, swallowing hard. “An old acquaintance that used to pay very well for my services,” you stated, glancing up at Jaebum so that he knew you were talking about your identity as an assassin. When he made no motion to stop you, you continued with your story.
“He said that there was someone here in our Kingdom that had heard of my abilities and wanted to hire me to assassinate someone,” you told him. Jaebum took a step back and stared above you at the painting of his father on the wall.
“And who was it that they wanted you to assassinate?” Jaebum whispered, the anger now clear in his voice. You hesitated briefly, knowing that it would hurt Jaebum to know the truth, but you couldn’t like to him. He was your prince.
“You, my lord,” you stated, softly. Jaebum was turned away from you, intensely focused on the painting of his father so that you could not see his face.
“And what are you going to do?” Jaebum asked, his voice barely audible. You stared at his back as you thought deeply about what your next decision would be.
“Well? What will you do?” Jaebum shouted, spinning around to face you. You could see his eyes light up with fire and anger, but there was also something else within them. You could tell he was hurt that someone in his own guard would want him dead. You couldn’t begin to fathom the life of a prince, but you could imagine how difficult loyalty was to find.
And that was when you made your decision.
You closed your eyes for a moment before shooting them back open and glaring at Jaebum. You took a step towards him and he __ took a step back. You unsheathed your sword and held it up for a moment, letting the light from the candles illuminate the silver blade.
You dropped down to one knee in front of Jaebum and held out your sword to him.
“I’ll tell you what I’m going to do,” you stated. “I’m going to go to Aluria and find my contact and force him to give me the location of the man who wants me to assassinate you. Then I will hunt that man down and make him pay for even considering to betray you,” you spat, angrily. A second passed before you spoke up once more.
“Because I am loyal to you, my prince,” you stated, honestly
There was another moment of silence before Jaebum reached down and touched the hilt of your sword gently. You glanced at him as he bent down next to you. His eyes no longer held anger or hurt, but instead relief and thankfulness.
“Then as your prince, I command you to track down this betrayer and bring him to me,” Jaebum said, nodding at you as you both stood back up. In the candlelight you took in the prince’s beauty and steadied your heart, bowing as you turned to leave.
“Oh, and Y/N?” Jaebum exclaimed from the throne in which he had sat back down. You turned back to face him, eyebrows raised in anticipation.
