Thinking about the scene in episode one where Jade says, “Where the princess goes, I go.”

It was so bold of her to say those words.

She was in a room with Kit’s mom, Kit’s fiancé, and King Hastur and was like I go everywhere she goes, so bold and brave! Everyone probably knows/sees they’re extremely close. King Hastur probably clocked it at the party the night before and was like I’m not letting this happen hence making Graydon go on the quest (among other motives but not the point of this post).

Jade is her knight, Jade is her protector, Jade is her best friend, Jade is the love of her life.

Disney Princess Kit Tanthalos

"Was it your prince that cut your hair?" Rapunzel asked, noting Kit Tanthalos's short brown locks, somewhat similar to her own.

"Ew. No. I would have killed him on the spot." Kit scoffed immediately. "My best friend and I cut it together, every couple of months."

"So you do have a prince?" Cinderella asked, her eyes sparkling as though it were the most important question in the world. "What did he save you from?"

"I saved my prince... I mean, my brother. I cross to the ends of the earth and then I jumped off. I saved him." Kit smiled proudly, beginning to realize what they were getting at.

"I know something about cutting my hair and running off to save my family." Mulan agreed.

"I know something about having a sibling you are willing to do anything to save, no matter the cost." Anna added.

"You don't have your true love, or he just hasn't found you yet? It takes princes and knights a while sometimes." Snow White piped up, her voice high-pitched to the point of being a little annoying.

"I have my true love, and I have my knight... she's wonderful and brave and brilliant and bold. Beautiful too." Kit said, and caught a glimmer of a smile on a couple of young women who surrounded her's faces. "It is good to be seen and to be known. Thank you for the welcome, ladies."

Willow month: Favorite character

i want it to be known that originally this was just going to be yet another kit tanthalos hair appreciation post so just know this was entirely spurred by me thinking about it all day today.

anyway, hopefully i’m not too late in sharing my rambles for day 1, but i’ve loved seeing everyone else’s favorite characters so i am excited to share mine which is gasp our favorite princess kit tanthalos!

watching kit’s journey in recognizing that she is brave and worthy of love was powerful enough in and of itself, but what really gets me is that kit embarked on this journey all while being unabashedly queer. seeing kit’s queerness never being a major point of contention like it is for other protagonists did so much for my brain in recognizing that my queerness is multifaceted.

i’ve never connected to a character in the way i have connected with kit and i am forever in awe of her.
