December MC of the Month: Beatrice Howard Foredale
Please welcome December 2024's MC of the Month: @princess-geek's Beatrice Howard Foredale from Desire & Decorum.
Each month, we highlight one MC or OC on our Meet My MC / OC List. They are selected randomly on the Wheel of Names, and eligibility requirements can be found here. We accept MC / OC profiles on an ongoing basis. Please feel free to send yours in!
Learn more about Beatrice below.
1- In your own words, tell us what you like most about your MC / OC.
I love how spontaneous she is and how intense her feelings are.
2- Do you feel your MC / OC is like you at all? How are you alike or different?
I feel that Beatrice is an alternative version of myself, almost an alter ego. We both have brown hair, light skin colour and brown eyes, however, I confess I put some fairy dust on her to make her prettier.
I projected on her some of my ambitions, skills, qualities, and flaws as well. We both share a passion for writing, reading and photography (even though she's much better at it than me). She and I like the same colour palette (pink and gold). Beatrice gets my dream job (being a journalist and writer), and she can do three things that I would love to know how to do very well: ride a horse, dance and handle a sword.
The major flaw we share is stubbornness. Nevertheless, there is something (which will be evident later in the narrative) that sets us apart: Beatrice has some difficulties in understanding and communicating her feelings. This will get her into trouble and cause her distress.
3- What is most important to your MC / OC? What is their motivation in life?
Although she makes great sacrifices to achieve her goals, deep down, Beatrice needs and lives to give and receive love from family and friends. What truly fills her heart is what she lives with those she loves, whether it's a big event or an afternoon vegetating on the couch with Briar.
4- What are their biggest pet peeves/dislikes?
It is universally known that she has some issues with Henrietta. However, one thing that angers her the most is high society's vices. The shiny veneer of the social varnish layer hides hypocrisy, pettiness, prejudices and evil that she cannot stand. Therefore, whenever she can, she exposes and stands up to those with two faces. She tends to be suspicious of people who don't like dogs (and especially those who don't think Sunny is the cutest thing on earth).
5- If your MC / OC could change one thing - anything - what would it be?
If Beatrice could change one thing about her, she would choose to be a little taller (she gets frustrated at not being able to reach certain places)
6- What is your MC / OC’s favorite quote or song?
Her favourite quote is ‘Love is the most reliable compass’. Her father told her this once, and she has never forgotten it and guides her life inspired by it.
7- Is there anything else you’d like to share about your MC / OC?
Beatrice's determination and non-compliance with what is wrong around her have inspired me. Her story shows us it is possible to be a better person and make the world around us a little better. Even though, like her, we often have to resign or give in, the important is never to give up fighting for those or things we love.
She's a huge Arsenal fan. She gets very excited when watching the matches -- she jumps off the couch, yells at the players, and always wears red clothes and the team’s scarf. Beatrice also collects the team’s merchandising.
Beatrice will become a woman of passions; Helen was sure of that. She could guess it by the intensity of emotions her daughter was already showing as a child. Helen just wished her daughter was luckier in love than she was because she won’t be there to comfort her, to kiss her head and stroke her hair whispering that the pain will pass, that her heart will heal, there will be other lovers and, then, one day, Mr. Right will come… he will make her blush, feel butterflies in her stomach, make time stop each time their gazes meet, take her breath away with each kiss. He could be a prince or a plumber, but they will love each other unconditionally and forevermore.
Excerpt from Unspoken Desires - Prologue
Beatrice Foredale was created by the amazingly talented and generous @princess-geek, who I'm blessed to call my friend and is today's birthday girl! 🥳🎉
My dear, Débora, I wish you all the best in your birthday: a healthy and happy new year, love and wisdom, and that you never lack creativity and inspiration to write. May your dreams come true! I hope you enjoy this little token. It's quite small, but it's a way to say I'm thankful for your life.
So I put in first place the period drama couple because I see you like a hopeless romantic who would die to live a period drama romance, like the classic romance of a country squire gremlin with Mr. Darcy complex ;) the food also has a meaning: how sweet and juvenile you are. The hair shows your delicacy and ethereal vibes and the book is because you're a bookworm, like me and you love beautiful things and live to witness and have them.
Cereal for particular occasions (basically whenever I've bought cereal, which happens... not often), but most of the time hot chocolate and whatever pastry I can get my hands on. Hot chocolate is a must, though, unless it's like, 35°C outside. When my dad is home, he'll sometimes stop by the baker and bring me pains aux chocolat and other French delicacies, which is so sweet of him!
✨Fanfic Sunday Funday✨ Week 1: Share the most memorable piece of dialogue you’ve ever written!
Hi, sweetie! Thanks for the ask! 😘
To be really honest with you, I'm not sure 😳That was a dialogue that was sort of popular back when I posted its WIP, but it was merely an introduction to the plot and I think my readers were more upset with the whole conflict in the story (and/or interested in the smut) and didn't really gave attention to the little romantic details I added before:
"Do you know it's been a month since we were together?"
"Yes. Thirty days and fourteen hours, to be more specific."
"You're counting the days and hours..." Her lips curl in a shy smile.
"Counting the minutes was driving me insane. I figure switching to a bigger unit of time would ease out the pain of missing you."
"How dramatic."
"Never give a Nicholas Sparks book as a birthday gift to a man in love, Carla."

But my favorite still is this one:
“It’s okay. We will have time to talk about all of this some other time, right?”
“Preferably in person. Over coffee. Or chai."
“Are you asking me on a date, Lady Daphne?” He joked, but as he noticed her blushing, his smile grew wider. “Oh, you did ask me out!”
She looked down, fiddling with a button of her cardigan.
“And here I was, looking for an excuse to ask you out next Saturday in a way that you couldn’t refuse it if you find out I was planning a date.” He teased.
“Stop it,” she nagged.
“I will if you ask me out again.”
“I just did and you didn’t even answer!”
“I didn’t answer because it wasn’t a question.” He rested his chin on one hand and lowered his voice. “Ask me out again.”
“Are you doing this just to tease me?” She narrowed her eyes.
“No, but I’ve never been asked on a date before. And after our two non-dates, I think I deserve a moment to savor this.”
“Fine...” She took a deep breath before speaking. “Will you go out with me next Saturday?”
“Yes.” His lips curled into a slow smile. “I can barely wait for it.”
“It’s a date then,” she uttered, a timid smile spreading on her lips while cheeks turning crimson.
“See? It wasn’t that hard.” He mocked.
“Hey! Give me a break. I never asked anyone out before. I just asked again because you said no one had ever asked you before.”
“Well, technically I’ve been asked on dates before. Several times, actually. I just never been asked by anyone I would have said yes to. Until now, of course.” He winked.
“Oh my god! Will you leave your ego at home and will I have to ask for a table for three?”
