“If you’re looking for Little Bear, she’s not here.”
In the place of the normally flustered short redhead, Yusra was the person to answer the door to her house. Although Amee had specifically asked the Griffon Rider not to trouble herself by answering the door to any guests, she decided to do so anyway with the children crying out that it would be their Aunt Cynthia. Yves and Maylis, both hanging over Yusra’s shoulders, cheerfully waved at Cynthia, while the ever-silent Haytham clung to her leg.
Yusra opened the door wider, a strange smile on her lips. “You should come in. I hate the cold and it’s only getting colder.”
“Mama went to get some more food for lunch and promised we wouldn’t have to go out to look for her!” Maylis called out. “Stay here and play with us! You are going to stay, right?”
“Of course she is. She wouldn’t dare just leave you like this. Would you.”
That smile looked too unnerving.
“Come join the fun... Cynthia.”
Even the way she said Cynthia’s name sounded... venomous.
“Do sit down and relax.”
