Even though she had a boyfriend, I interpret Nerissa's hostility towards Shelley because she has more than friendship feelings for Serena and doesn't want Shelley to get her and the other mermaids in trouble, as their lives were peaceful before she came. What is Nerissa's reason of disliking Shelley?
Whoa, I totally hadn't thought of that but it makes sense! Nerissa and Serena are really close, but I think the original idea was that Nerissa has a plan to get revenge on the sailors who killed her mom (one of Shelley's family members up the tree *dun dun dun*) and she doesn't want Shelley messing that up. That, and Shelley did come in like a wrecking ball and practically 'stole' everyone away from her, so she's a little bitter about that.
Will you write an original story without supernatural or sci-fi elements in the future?
I probably will! I'm definitely going to be working with non-supernatural stories to write my first movie script, but I might end up making it a novel someday!
How did the idea of Cape Coral come and what inspired you to write it?
Thanks for asking!!
I've always loved the idea of mermaids. The thought of being able to live underwater like a fish has fascinated me since I was little, and I absolutely loved H20: Just Add Water (I watched every episode religiously when it was on TV, since it first aired in 2007). I wrote Blue Moon and Sea of Glass because I loved mermaids. But I wanted to create something more original and more personal than a fanfiction story.
So I started thinking up ideas of what I could do with a mermaid related story, and the concept of a town by the beach secretly filled with mermaids was too neat to resist. I'm sure it's been done before, but adding in other myths like Kelpies and Each-uisges (+others) makes me feel better about keeping it as original as possible.
I was really inspired to write Cape Coral after reading this little snippet from the Kelpie Wikipedia page:
Do you still have the TDM sideblog?
okay so not gonna lie, i lowkey gave up on this idea?? not because i didn’t like it but because i actually don’t feel ready to write an original work yet? so nope, i decided to give up this sideblog tbh.
What are your writing goals for 2019?
Thank you for asking!! My main goals are to finish Devil's Game and finish something original.
