Even though she had a boyfriend, I interpret Nerissa's hostility towards Shelley because she has more than friendship feelings for Serena and doesn't want Shelley to get her and the other mermaids in trouble, as their lives were peaceful before she came. What is Nerissa's reason of disliking Shelley?
Whoa, I totally hadn't thought of that but it makes sense! Nerissa and Serena are really close, but I think the original idea was that Nerissa has a plan to get revenge on the sailors who killed her mom (one of Shelley's family members up the tree *dun dun dun*) and she doesn't want Shelley messing that up. That, and Shelley did come in like a wrecking ball and practically 'stole' everyone away from her, so she's a little bitter about that.
