He even did spent a few months with Sasuke, but it was in the darkest time of both their lives, something he didn’t want to tell Sarada.

     She doesn’t understand. What, he wants to ask -- but he knows the answer to that already. He’s been gone nearly her entire life thus far. Why has he been gone? She doesn’t understand that, does she? Fingers curl into fists and then unfurl all over again so that he can run them through his bangs and push them out of his face a little better.

     “I’m trying to make sure that evil doesn’t reach you or your mother.” Quieter, softer, expression turning tender, the Uchiha reaches to cup his daughter’s cheek. “And to make up for the things I did when I was younger.”
