Revelling Amongst Strangers | Closed RP
Zuko clicks his tongue with a frown. “If anything, strangers shouldn’t talk to you.”
It was clear his sister was in a taunting mood, the smirk stretched out on her lips made that evident. His gaze peered out at the crowd, mingling and conversing with one another.
Zuko never much cared for parties, in fact, he avoided them at all cost but being Fire Lord didn’t give him much of an option. Most times he would show face before quietly sneaking away in case someone grabbed his attention and drags him in for a long night of senseless chatter.
“You know, I did go through the trouble of setting up this birthday party for you. The least you can do is greet our guests, even if you don’t know them.”
“You went to a lot of trouble to throw a party so that you could schmooze,” she corrected her brother drolly. “My birthday was merely a convenient excuse.”
Through the doors that opened out onto the garden, she could see that the deluge of their winter rain had not let up in the few hours that they had already spent preparing for and marking the arrival of their guests. January was always the wettest of their winter months before the monsoon season officially came to a slow and dragging close in February.
Her birthday was usually inundated with a downpour, as such.
“Otherwise you would have invited people that I know.” She lifted a polished eyebrow at her brother, daring him to disagree. “Aside from your revolutionary friends, that is.”
Azula plucked a steaming cup of tea from a nearby tray, surveying the colourful crowd. Even foreign dignitaries aside from the Avatar and his friends had been invited. There was Earth Kingdom green among the crimson and maroons of the Fire Nation elite.
She swirled the contents of her teacup absently, the tiny specks of oolong leaves left behind by the brewing process following the motion into a mini whirlpool in the porcelain cup.
“Besides, you’re just as unwilling to mingle as me. And it’s my birthday. I don’t have to do anything that I don’t want to. So you greet the guests.” She swallowed another smirk, lifting her eyebrows in challenge at Zuko.
