There are so many ballerinas whose stories haven’t been told.

For the month of June,

I’m planning on highlighting the untold stories of Black ballerinas who have been ignored by the history books and the dance world at large.

The first story will be about India Bradley,

the first Black principal ballerina of NYC ballet.

She’s from Detroit , right here in the USA.

We’ve earned the right to be represented!

Misty Copeland, the first Black woman to become a principal ballerina at the American Ballet Theatre showed the world what grace and grit truly look like. She is an astoundingly gifted, talented, and beautiful woman of color, who "hands down" happens to be one the greatest ballet dancers in the world!

She didn’t just dance, she changed the stage and the narrative in a space that was never built with women or men of color in mind. Thank God she was able to break those barriers✨

Misty, you’ve earned your retirement, now it's time to live your best life! Enjoy your new roles... Motherhood, Philanthropy, and Advocate for diversity in the Arts knowing that you've broken the glass ceiling, made a difference, opened doors, change perspectives, and blessed the world through ballet and more. Well done, Ms. Copeland! 👏🏽💜
