Often referred to as the founder of minimal and conceptual art, Sol LeWitt was an American artist known for his wall drawings and ‘’structures’’- the preferred term he gave to his sculptures. Working in a wide range of media including printmaking, photography, drawing and painting, LeWitt experimented with the platforms of sculpture.

From conventional exhibition pieces, to monumental outdoor instillations, he created wall drawings, pyramids, towers and geometric forms. LeWitt’s early three-dimensional work, in the 1960s, displayed squares arranged in various visual complexity.
