how in the world did you watch 851 movies this year and also can we be friends on letterboxd if you use it
so a big part of it is that i have a lot of free time, like i have stuff going on in my life but most of those things have a low time commitment (like im a full-time student & my schedule's super open, i only work 1-3 days per week & show movies at my job, the committees im on tend to only meet 1-2 times a month, volunteering only sometimes takes up a bunch of my time, ect) so i have lots of blocks of time that i can use for personal projects & watching stuff
im also rlly good at sitting down and watching stuff for like 12hrs straight. like i used to do this way more for tv shows (like im p sure earlier this year, it took me like 2.5 days to watch the entire 2nd season of glee, and when im watching shows w friends they always have to decide when we're done for the night bc i will just keep playing the next episode) but my focus has switched over to movies
and sorta last year & esp this year, i got into the habit that if i had a 2hr block of time with nothing i needed to do, i'd just throw on a movie, and i'd make lists and plan ahead so its rlly easy to pick something to watch based on 1) how im feeling 2) what parts of my film education im trying to build up 3) what looks fun 4) what would be interesting to watch with other things ive seen recently and 5) what can i easily access
and tracking the numbers of what i was watching made me so competitive. like i did start rlly pushing myself to see how many movies i can watch in a month before its physically painful for me (the answer was 124 movies back in may. i felt like i was dying on may 30 & 31 watching movies i love like Helter Skelter (2012) & Multiple Maniacs (1970) while extremely exhausted) but its rlly easy for me to watch on average like 2.5 movies per day
like this was my by-week count for the year on letterboxd:
and i have my own spreadsheet ive been using to track data for myself, like this is my years freq sheet to visually track how many movies from each year i watched (the colors correspond to month watched so i could see if there were trends in when i watched different decades):
and this is what my movie list sheet looks like:
and i went rlly overboard this year with movies, but i did have a ton of fun turning it into a project for myself, esp when i started seeing all these different gaps in my film knowledge & got to check out so many rlly great movies while working on addressing those gaps (some of which rlly surprised me! like the months where i focused on watching iconic films ive never seen before were wild rides with some epic highs & lows, and i love giving myself months to just rlly focus in on different film movements or different genres im not super familiar with)
and we can def be friends on letterboxd!!! my username on there is also adhdheather. i dont tend to post reviews v often, but i use the website constantly
