@doctorspork hey wait a min , docs do their own prior auths at your practice? Do you feel like that takes time away from other things?

Yes and yes. It’s a residency clinic - I don’t know if other residencies have someone else who does them (and if so, I’m very jealous), but we’ve got poor funding and poor staffing, so we do them, and they suck, and I generally spend 3x as long on the phone with someone with 0 medical training trying to explain why my patient needs this medication than I actually do with the patient.

On Tuesday July 12th 2016, Monica Toohey, RPh presents an update on Hepatitis C Prior Authorization in State Medicaid FFS and Managed Care.Monica Toohey graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 1995. She has worked in retail pharmacy for over 20 years, 11 of which was as a supervisor.

In April of 2007, Ms. Toohey began working for the New York State Medicaid Pharmacy Program, originally provided clinical support to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee (P&TC) & Drug Utilization Review (DUR) programs. Over the last few years her responsibilities have expanded to now include supervisory duties such as:- Involvement in pharmacy oversight of the Medicaid Managed Care plans- Medicaid fee-for -service formulary, systems and operations management- Development of clinical criteria rules & system applications with Health Information Designs (HID), to successfully implement a front end clinical editing system and provider web portal in Medicaid FFS- Clinical call center oversightShe is also involved with various aspects of the budget process, Medicaid Redesign Team projects, Pharmacy Managed Care Web Site development and a variety of work groups concerning the Medicaid program.
