The good news is that my incarcerated penpal Shine White has finally been transferred out of solitary! The bad news is that his prison refuses to provide prisoners with basic necessities or an adequate library. He went the last two years without shoes or hygiene products because he was not allowed to receive commissary money in solitary. He now needs about $100 US to buy the items he needs. He has also asked me to share his book wishlist so that he can continue to learn.

His favorite animal is dogs (especially pit bulls). The prison scans all incoming mail, so non-scannable cards like popups or electronic cards are not permitted. My friend Joseph Stewart was recently transferred to a different prison. During the move, his books and other possessions were taken away and not returned. The prison is also not delivering his mail consistently despite his friends and family making sure to write the correct address and follow the regulations.

Call and email to end abuse of Florida state prisoners

Incarcerated people in Florida state prisons are currently being beaten in "blind spots" (areas not covered by surveillance cameras), being served spoiled food, forced to sleep on filthy sheets during a pandemic, denied winter clothing, placed in bare cells with broken windows during winter, and punished for seeking mental health care.

My penpal Joseph Stewart has been transferred back to solitary confinement in retaliation for his continuing advocacy for his fellow prisoners and for his political beliefs. The prison guards at Alexander Correctional Institution have beat him, limited his access to drinking water, and denied him access to books sent to him in accordance with prison policies.
