Don't you know how many years Henry Allen should in prison? I think it is really important question
This has bothered me, actually. The show doesn’t say, but we know he’s been in jail for approximately 15 years. He’s a doctor who had zero priors, but murder of his wife (in front of his child) probably slapped him with a pretty harsh sentence.
Knowing that Central City is in Missouri thanks to this post (check out my “geography” tag for details), I just poked into Missouri’s sentencing laws. According to this website (with more detail found here), a class A felony such as murder has a minimum sentence of 10 years and maximum of 30, or else life imprisonment.
And then wikipedia tells us that in Missouri, second first degree murder is 10-30 years or life, but first degree murder is life without parole or death (apparently Missouri has the death penalty).
So that could go either way. If Henry was convicted of second degree murder, he could have been served just 15 years and be out soon, or he could have been served 30, or even life. Life in prison seems maybe not that likely for a first time offender, and we can conjecture that a doctor like Henry Allen would have been able to hire a pretty decent lawyer and I can only imagine he’d have pleaded not guilty. But murder is a pretty harsh crime and a judge may have wanted to make an example of him, even with just second degree, so he might have life. And if he was convicted of first degree murder, it’s life without parole for sure.
My guess is honestly that last one, that Henry has life in prison without parole. Barry certainly seems to act like his father will never go free. Beyond that, I doubt Henry would have taken a plea deal to drop his charge down to second degree murder and just take 25 years or something. He seems like the type of guy to fight it out in court, meaning he’d have been convicted of the full life sentence for first degree murder (but thankfully not the death penalty).
That’s my conjecture though, and it would be nice if the show would clarify a bit for us.
