Now Zoom and Flash are fighting—Gods I hate Zoom even more.

The lab was dark. The team had relocated to another room to let Caitlin sleep. After she had just walked in. After Hunter had just let her go, like none of it had happened.

She laid on the cot in the lab, arms curled around herself as she tried to will herself to sleep. But she couldn't stop thinking of him. It'd been too easy to walk out. Hunter could get her the moment she went home. Her only protection was Barry, and she couldn't spend every waking moment with him. She couldn't truly be safe from Hunter. Her only realistic hope was to spend her time recovering, so that if Hunter took her back, she could have enough strength to resist him for a little while longer.

Caitlin jumped when she heard a knock on the wall. She sat up instantly. Henry stood in the doorway, an apologetic grimace on his face. It wasn't like she had been sleeping anyway.

"You doing alright?" Henry asked gently.

Caitlin hesitated before shaking her head. Henry was nice. He'd been very patient checking her vitals, though the way he treated her made her feel like a stray animal on the street, scared and wild. She was sure she looked that way, with her hair tangled and wild, how jumpy she had been, and the way she yanked away from him when he grabbed her arm to put on the blood pressure cuff.

"I'll be okay," Caitlin said instead, even if it felt like a lie. She chewed on her lip for a moment before quietly adding, "You can stay, if you'd like."

Henry nodded and pulled up a chair, sitting next to her and talking about the team, about what she'd missed without saying while you were gone. She was grateful for it.

Somehow, even though it felt impossible, she'd gotten to a good place even after Ronnie had died—the first time, atleast—and this was nothing in comparison to that. She was alive. Barry was alive. Her friends were alive. She would be okay. She had to be.

Three at once???? Excellent!!! But I will be putting this under a readmore because it, uh...got very long (I love to yap about my work :D)

a father (twice over)

This the third (or possibly fourth, that's still TBD) part of my DCTV series 'Cobalt Blue and The Flash' - an AU featuring my version of Malcolm Thawne (who in the comics was Barry Allen's secret evil twin stolen at birth who resented his brother's success and went full supervillain instead of, y'know...reaching out to him.) My version is a biological Thawne - the younger brother of Eddie, one of the mains in the first season - and in this AU is actually best friends with Barry, sees him as a brother (especially as he's estranged from his actual brother), and fully supports his search for the impossible...

He's also in the same room as him when lightning strikes and gets hit himself trying to pull Barry out of the path of the bolt. Five months later he wakes up with powers and a whole load of guilt for not being able to save Barry because he's still in a coma and no one's quite sure why Malcolm woke up earlier. He's visited Barry's father in prison in the past - even sees him as a better parental figure than his own parents - but feels like if he goes to see him now all the man's going to think is 'why isn't my son awake?'

This fic shows how wrong he is, because Henry Allen has thought of him as family for a while now, as it's going to showcase - it's gonna be both a prequel and a sequel and cover the five years he's known Malcolm. From the young student struggling in the aftermath of a burnout to the young man studying something he's actually interested in after cutting out his toxic parents, Henry's proud of him, proud to have had the privilege of watching him grow, to have seen him overcoming so many obstacles to get where he is today- and is utterly devastated when he finds out that both his sons are in a critical condition.

It's going to be a very emotional fic. I've been trying to write it for three years.

This is my 'what if Thor's children from mythology were part of the MCU' fic and I've been trying to write it for even longer!!!!! Since 2014!!!!!!! When I first watched the film and then found out about the kiddos!!!!!! Which I loved!!!!!! It was a great idea and I loved it!!!!!!!!! Loved it!!!!!!!!! ...Only I struggled because I wasn't sure how they would fit. I got too caught up in details with things like 'how would the age equivalence work' and 'is Thor even mature enough to be a parent' because I didn't think he'd be a shit parent but also like he's pretty immature and would he have even committed enough to a relationship long enough to have one kid, let alone three'.

Ended up ditching the idea entirely. I still wanted to write for my other MCU OCs but I decided that Magni and Módi and Thrúd would not be part of it...only the thing is, I couldn't forget them. These were still my OCs, still my ideas, still a pretty decent concept, and about a couple years ago I decided why the hell not? I could make this work if I really wanted because of the angst potential, because of the family drama, because Thor could still be a good parent but that didn't mean he wouldn't make mistakes, didn't mean he'd always understand his children.

And their bastard status complicates things too. Here's a snippet, Magni reflecting on his childhood.

He'd only found out his true status during a feast, when a nobleman had gotten particularly drunk and decided to hurl the word at him with such disgust it had shaken him- He'd known what a bastard was, of course, though usually they weren't the subject of such derision...but apparently he, Módi and Thrúd were the exception, not the rule, because of whose bastards they were. There'd been fury over the remark - Father had had to be physically restrained by Uncle (though Lady Sif and the Warriors Three had had no such compunction and if Grandfather hadn't stepped in it would've been an all-out battle in the dining hall...) But Magni had known, then, that it was true.

As you see it's not going to be an all out angst fest - I always figured Thor's friends would be supportive and the Thor rewatch just confirmed that - but still. The rift between Thor and his kids (especially Thor and his eldest) is gonna be the driving force of the plot partly because Thor has not actually made clear that he has no intention of letting Magni be supplanted as his heir no matter what the All-Father says.

The title is referencing the fact that oak trees are associated with Thor and Yggdrasil in the mythos is an ash tree (and also some slight inspiration from Joanne Harris's Runemarks series which I loved and still love)

It is January 2020. A new season of Doctor Who has arrived and despite not really being all that impressed the last few years I have decided that I will give it another chance it case it improves (it takes further five years before I finally quit). We are introduced to a character called O, MI5 agent, brilliantly played by Sacha Dhawan, who has a history with the Doctor but who doesn't have that usual hero worship people fall into. He knows aliens exist and he's prepared to deal with them.

He turns out to be The Master. But that's not the problem. The problem is that for whatever godforsaken reason they revert right back to Simm's charactersation and have him act crazy and unhinged and it just felt like such a waste and the Timeless Child storyline one of the most frustrating things ever and I hated it and I still hate it and I didn't like it with Simm either just for the record!!!!! The progress Missy had made was completely wiped out and I hated it and I still hate it to this day.

And I always knew I'd be rewriting it when I eventually got there with my OC storyline...but that was something else that kept getting pushed back and it wasn't until I started doing more fandom events that I realised you could just do standalone stories - in the back of my mind this was always bubbling but it crystallized in about November 2024 when I decided to watch the very first Master episode as part of my Classic Who watched...and I loved it and I mourned what we could've had. Sacha Dhawan's initial portrayal of O would've been a great basis for The Master, just keep those character traits. So.

One key question is 'what if Missy's redemption path had continued?'.

The other is 'if the Timeless Child is just some random child...what would it take to make the Master care about their fate?' Gallifrey is not destroyed in this one but he's still pretty furious and he did come very close-

Missy was revived. She regenerated. The new incarnation decides that they need space from the Doctor but also that if they're going to truly try and become better...they need to really make the effort. Experience things. Why not start by spending time on Earth, on the slow path? This strange little planet they've never really understood? Humans are so small and tiny but they've never really spent time among them without planning some diabolical scheme...that's got to change. And so this story is non-chronological, spanning about fifty years from when O lands in the seventies to January 2020, jumps across various points of his life here.

This is gonna involve a lot of changes. Barton's the main villain of 'Spyfall'. O isn't a fringe agent but actively involved in shoring up Earth's defences and helps train other agents. He still lives in the outback because sometimes he really does need the solitude, but there's a town he often visits and has become fond of. He's prepared to help against the interdimensional invaders but is still deeply unimpressed with the Doctor because he's lived through many alien invasions by 2020, but remembers most of all the one he wasn't there to stop, the one O tried to stop but couldn't. He wants to find The Timeless Child. He's not really sure what he can do if he does.

This one I really did think I'd have finished by now but turns out writing something non-chronologically is difficult, because I've never really done it quite on this scale before, and it's nerve-wracking because The Master is...quite a complex character, and I think I'm gonna have to rewatch some Doctor Who to spark some more of it. But I still love the idea, even if I do suspect it's gonna turn into a series...but not a huge one. Hopefully.

Can I ask about a father (twice over)?

Just got this from @shrinkthisviolet as well so here we go :D

Anyway, this fic is intended to be the fourth part of the Cobalt Blue series - Part 3 is going to end with Malcolm finally gearing up his courage to go and visit Henry (not really a spoiler as that's not the main plot point in that fic) as he's been avoiding doing so mostly out of guilt for being the first one to wake up instead of Barry because surely Henry would rather have his son than his son's friend-

Only as this fic is going to show, Henry thinks of Malcolm as a son too and has done for some time. The story starts from the time he first met Malcolm in the immediate aftermath of his burnout - as Barry was unwilling to leave him on his own - and his protective instincts are obviously fired up from the start at seeing this stressed, skinny kid his son's clearly worried about (and he's already heard plenty about Malcolm's problems from Barry because his son was concerned something like this might happen)...but is also struck by the fact it hasn't taken everything from him, as this kid asks how he is (via Barry, but still. It's not something he expected-)

The next time he sees him is a few months later after Malcolm visits him in Barry's stead - and drops the bombshell that hey, he believes in him too because he's had his own experience with the impossible (though he doesn't elaborate on what) and so that changes things, really, and so Henry's even more determined to look out for this kid as best he can, and he's proud of the kid for getting through things.

There's gonna be time skips, of course, but I'm hoping to still convey what's needed...and this also might change a little if I really get going on it. Here's a snippet!

Over the next several months, Henry had the privilege of watching Malcolm grow and flourish. The solo prison visit hadn’t been a one off – even when Barry had finished his exams and no longer needed a cover, Malcolm kept coming over, and Henry liked having his company. He was a bright young lad who was thriving now he was getting the support he needed. He got the part-time job in the bookstore and it evidently suited him down to the ground because he almost always brought it up and eventually started college again on a new course. “I’m doing biology.” He told him one day. “It’s what I would’ve chosen the first time around if I’d been able and…I want to do something in genetics, studying diseases and working on cures and treatments.” “You’re going to be a doctor?” “Yeah. Not the same sort of one as you were, but…yeah, someday I’ll be a doctor. It’s a goal I want to work towards, helping others and beating things that have ruined so many lives.”

(Across all my 'verses, Malcolm eventually becomes a Doctor of Metahuman Biology.)

Naturally there's gonna be plenty of angst as well, because it's me, as Malcolm opens up about his estranged relationship with his older brother and, of course, the lightning strike itself because Henry's horrified to hear from Iris that both his sons are in a critical condition and there's nothing he can do about it, so all he can do is hope.

And of course there's also a lot of irony at play here - whereas in the comics Malcolm was a biological Allen who chose not to reach out to them and went on a stupid revenge quest instead, here Malcolm is a biological Thawne but not only gets another brother in Barry Allen, but the parental figure he always needed in Henry Allen, and that's always been one of the appeals of writing this story-

(As for why I have two parts of a series started...that's because initially I wasn't sure what order they were gonna be posted in. Still not one hundred percent, we'll just have to see what happens.)
