Paroled Pupdate: A Happy Ending for Jasmine
Jasmine is a Great Pyrenees who came to PPP as an owner-surrender and after three months of working side-by-side with her incarcerated trainers, Karen and Amanda, began looking for a home with a happy ending. With her gorgeous looks and grandeur, you would have thought it would have been easy to find her a home. Alas, Great Pyrenees tend to be independent and somewhat stubborn, which can make obedience training more of a challenge. Jasmine is a very ancient breed that was initially bred to be a livestock guardian to safeguard flocks from wolves, bears, as well as human adversaries in a very harsh climate.
Jasmine is fantastic, and her family feels super blessed. Jasmine’s mom said she is a big goofball, and her instincts are strong when it comes to protecting her family. Jasmine and their other dog, Dale are a love match and best buddies. Dale is an older pill bull mix that has fallen in love with Jasmine’s magnificent looks as well as her unconditional love for everyone, even new visitors.
For all of Jasmine’s antics, she is brilliant. Her mom just had minor dental surgery and is in a lot of pain. Jasmine refuses to leave her side, sniffs at her mouth, and cuddles into her to offer comfort. A few weeks ago, one of Jasmine’s humans fell in the yard. She was concerned as she ran up to him, sniffed him everywhere, and helped him up. She has her daily routine down, knows the difference between the words “breakfast” and “dinner.” She loves to dig in the dirt and always seems to get dirty. Thankfully Jasmine’s fur doesn’t require a lot of pet grooming. Her coat is dirt- as well as tangle-resistant. She has a double coat, with a long outer coat and a soft undercoat. Jasmine loves to be outside, so, remarkably, her white fur stays white. She will avoid making eye contact with her mom when it is time to come inside. They had no idea how Jasmine knows what red licorice is, but she loves it. Bedtime is a process because she does zoomies all over the house, letting out any of the last bit of energy.
For all of Jasmine guardian type-genetics, she was very appreciative when her brother, Dale, chased a coyote out of the yard. When he returned, she snuggled her whole body onto him to give him her thanks. It is wonderful to know Jasmine finally found her happy ending.
