I don’t need you to babysit me, I’ll be fine on my own. Prison!AU please?
Nick felt himself once he put his uniform on once again. He had been suspended for three months and couldn’t wait to see Sonny again. He hadn’t seen Sonny since the day he was suspended, so seeing him his first day back was going to be the highlight of his week. Nick couldn’t call, write or even visit since they had to keep their relationship a secret. When Nick arrived at the prison, a sigh escaped his lips as he entered.
“Amaro. You’re finally back from your suspension I see.” Another CO said, smirking at the male. Nick chuckled and watched him.
“I don’t see why they thought what I did to that prisoner meant I needed a suspension. They’re all in here for a reason and some need to be roughened up a bit.” Nick shrugged as he walked past the guy. Nick wondered the corridors before he found the small break area a few other COs were in.
“Our knight in shining armor. This place as gone down hill since one of our best officers left. Prisoners think they can walk all over us! Not anymore.” Another CO said. Nick rolled his eyes before locking his bag up and heading down to grab his radio and see where he was assigned.
Nick noticed he was assigned to D block, Sonny’s block unless they moved him. Moving prisoners to different blocks happened all the time, but Sonny was a good guy. He wouldn’t be transferred unless someone from his block was causing him trouble. When Nick got to that area, he looked around to see if Sonny was in his cell. He wasn’t there. There was only one other place he would be, the library. So Nick went to check there.
Upon entering the library, Nick glanced around and noticed it was quiet and looked pretty empty. The library was pretty small so if someone was hiding, you’d be able to find them. Just as Nick went to leave, he heard the familiar laugh of Sonny. A large smile moved over his lips as he followed it, only to find Sonny wrapped in another prisoners arms.
“What the hell!” Nick shouted, causing the two men to quickly pull away from each other. Sonny looked up at Nick with sad blue eyes.
“Uh, we were just… putting the books away!” The man with Sonny said as he quickly grabbed the few books on the floor and scurried to put them away. Sonny stood and watched the CO.
“What?” Sonny simply said. Nick rolled his eyes and stormed out of the library, Sonny quickly on his heels.
“I’m on suspension and come back to you cuddling up against someone else?!” Nick shouted at Sonny. Sonny just watched him before looking towards the floor.
“You just left! I didn’t hear from you a-and Mike helped me a lot the last few weeks. Don’t blame me when you never did anything for me to think we were still together.” Sonny said sourly. Nick quickly turned to look at him.
“I couldn’t call or write or visit or anything! This is my fucking job! If they heard I was hooking up with a prisoner, I’ll lose everything! You could have called me!”
“You didn’t give me your fucking number! I can’t walk up to another CO and be like, ‘oh heeey. What’s Amaro’s number? I wanted to ask him how his fucking daisy garden is going!’ No! I couldn’t do that!” Sonny shouted back. Tears brimmed his eyes as he tried not to let them fall. Nick sighed as he covered his face with his hands and slowly removed them.
“Alright, look. I’m sorry. I’m here now, Sonny. Bobby and his crew-“
“No. I don’t need you to babysit me anymore. I’m fine on my own, officer. Goodbye.” Sonny turned and walked back into the library. Nick watched as Sonny walked over to Mike and quickly began to cry against him. Mike hugged him tightly and rubbed his back. Nick let out a sigh once more as he turned and walked away. He wanted to fix this.
