𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐕𝐎𝐈𝐃 wasn’t just a place, this much the outsider knew ; it had its own will, enforcing it upon the few whose connection to it was strong, strings making them dance to its tune. the void whispered, its cruel and insidious nature befitting of the wilderness, human morality irrelevant to its needs. it had its claws deep within the outsider’s heart, its talons digging into its veins, uncaring of what it hurt in its wake. the outsider expected himself the sole humanoid within this realm, spirits notwithstanding -- their ethereal vision was temporary as they wandered the infinite blue, fading along with their footsteps once their heartaches had been resolved.
what he did not expect... was this. a creature, humanoid yet not human, tall and thin and elegant, whose presence the outsider never’d noted before. no one but him lived in the void. silent whispers and whale lullabies were what rung in his ears for millennia, alone, the sole watcher over this hollow space. yet here it -- no, they were, alarming him with their sudden appearance.
breath stopped, the human pretense vanishing for the sake of subtle communication ; i am not vulnerable, i am not human. what to do ? would civility even work ? he didn’t know what this was, who this was, their intent ... could it harm him, destroy him ? 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃𝐍'𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 ? ❛ how did you enter this place ? ❜ tone remained neutral, doubt and vigilance beneath an indifferent emotion.
