Tamagotchi On App Hosted In Japan
Have you downloaded the Tamagotchi On app yet? Well if you did then you probably had to read and agree to the privacy policy acknowledgements prior to playing the application. Theres one item that you should be aware of before moving forward.
This application is completely hosted and maintained in Japan. In fact it was developed by the Bandai Japan team and even translated by them too. By using the application you are essentially authorizing the export of your information to Japan and its storage and use as specified in their privacy policy.
Nothing to be alarmed about here as the information collected in the application is minimal, you are not creating an account or entering in any personal information into your profile as you would any other application. However there is actually data being transmitted from your Tamagotchi On device to the Tamagotchi On application. Here’s what the privacy policy states:
For example, children can use the App, view content, play games and enjoy many features of the App without any personal information being collected (unless valid consent is obtained). Please note that when using the App in connection with your Tamagotchi On device (your “Toy”) certain information may be collected by the App via Bluetooth from your Toy, and used and displayed in the App. The categories of information we may collect include:
Usage data – information on how you use our services
Profile Data – username/user identification, birthdate, hometown, gaming history
Again, nothing to be too worried about here, but just a heads up that all information transmitted is being sent over to Bandai Japan on Japanese servers. The data received is mostly used to provide access to certain activities in the On app and customize features and performance of the app. Analytical data is collected too to improve quality and stability.
