What the Heck Is iCloud Private Relay and How Can You Set It Up?

heya so i need some help!! hopefully the tags get it to somewhere it can do something. if you’re good with either tech or tumblr settings, please read this.

i signed up for this tumblr account (and my adjacent stim blog) using my apple ID. this is typically just my email, but i accidentally chose “hide email”, which creates a single-use thing that only tumblr has. my issue now is that because of this, i can’t log into tumblr on anything except my phone that has my fingerprint in it. this also means that i cannot change my email or password, because you need to have a previous password to do this, and i do not. maybe i just messed up and there’s nothing i can do about it, but that would really suck.

Firefox Private Relay: Mozilla testet Dienst zur E-Mail-Weiterleitung - Golem.de

Mit dem Firefox Private Relay lassen sich E-Mail-Aliasse erzeugen und blockieren. Das soll unter anderem gegen Spam helfen.

Browserhersteller Mozilla testet derzeit unter dem Namen Firefox Private Relay einen Dienst zur E-Mail-Weiterleitung. Die Idee dabei ist, dass beim Anmelden bei Diensten im Web immer unterschiedliche Aliasse generiert, die E-Mails dann aber an die eigene persönliche E-Mail-Adresse weitergeleitet werden.

Da Nutzer nun auch außerdem nicht mehr nur eine einzige E-Mail-Adresse für unzählige Dienste verwenden, sondern im besten Fall nur noch eine einzigartige je Dienst, lassen sich Informationen über Nutzer auch schwerer zusammenführen.

Ebenso ist das Wiederverwenden der Kombination aus der E-Mail-Adresse für den Login und dem Passwort für Angreifer deutlich schwieriger, sollten genutzte Dienste mal gehackt werden. Zwar sollten Nutzer für jeden Dienst ein anderes Passwort nutzen und idealerweise auch einen Passwortmanager mit generierten Zugangsdaten, das geschieht aber nach wie vor häufig nicht.
