Sam had been on the clock for ten straight hours when the last leg of her shift was rolling in. She had gotten about a fifteen minute nap during her lunch and was stealing bites of her sandwich while filing between patients and chatting with doctors on what to do next with them. She walked to one of the ER beds and pulled the back to see a man sitting with his head tilted back and hands and chest bloody from what appeared to be a broken nose.
“Get into a fight?” she asked walking over and pulling on a pair of gloves, gently removing the man’s hand from his nose and throwing the bloodied gauze away to inspect the damage. “Who won?” she asked with a light smile.
