Imagine seeing videos and social media posts where the take can either be summarized as “My vacation has been ruined due to the hurricane and I can’t get a refund” or “That’s what you tw for voting Republican”.
I live in Georgia in an area that was supposed to get the heavy winds and rains from Helene. But we still had a significant amount of damage. I’m talking we had a boil water advisory( that we didn’t get the alert for) due to the pumping stations losing power and the back up generators not kicking in due to damage…. Losing power, internet and cell service and being without it for nearly a week. So basically being in the dark for days, either metaphorically or literally. But when I managed to get into town to get internet to message my boss and coworkers an update, that’s what I see.
People complaining that the mountain lodge they were renting cancelled and wouldn’t ( in reality couldn’t because they don’t have internet or a strong enough connection to do much of anything outside of calls) refund them.
People stating that it’s our fault that our current situation is due to the fact that enough people voted for a Republican because they don’t now how population destiny works and how it plays into most elections. Also do you know how hard it is to evacuate on such notice. Like you have to find lodging that won’t jack up the prices and can accommodate for kids, disabilities, and pets. You have to hope and pray you don’t get stuck in traffic because everyone had the same idea. Hope and pray that the gas stations have not only enough gas for everyone but won’t be price gouging. Praying that you have a home to come back to.
Are there Republicans that would rather tongue kiss a rattlesnake while sitting naked on a hot grill than actually pass legislation that help with natural disaster relief because they don’t agree with whatever minuscule detail they want to argue? Yes. Does that mean the people from their states should suffer? No.
