21/9/19: latin notes and smudged lipstick
Quae de causa pro mea consuetudine breviter simpliciterque dixi,
Cicero, Pro Archia (lying)
“The things which, according to my custom, I have said briefly and simply”
just latin things,
all my friends in my latin class are also behind so im not alone,
zeus potestatem mihi dat.
there are seven people in my class, and today while translating Cicero's Pro Archia, Houghtalin literally compared Archias to a Rapper and likened his formulaic approach to verses as similar to fucking EMINEM FROM EIGHT MILE
Cicero: Even if Archias wasn’t a citizen, but clearly he is, he’s a poet. You know who else was a poet? Homer. Homer was a poet and everyone in Greece claims that Homer was a citizen of their town? Guess what? Homer is dead. Archias isn’t dead so if he wasn’t a citizen, but he is a citizen obviously, we would let him be a citizen anyway!
Me:
When Cicero is in a court case
“est ridiculum” Cicero, pro Archia
Everything about this.
