m.list - series m.list - this is part 1
you glance at your digital clock that sitting on your desk. 20.43 it reads, your shift ended a while ago. you stop typing on your laptop and take a sip of the now cold coffee that you bought hours ago. you sigh and stretch your arms, in a need of some movements. and probably rest.
the office, no scratch that, the whole building is deserted by now. papers and folders stacked nicely on the front desk. plates and cutlery washed and dried in the cafeteria, ready for the next day.
there is only a soft hum of the air conditioner in your office. you look around taking in the place slowly for the first time in months. its a nice space, glass door, glass walls as well. there is a little seating area in front of your desk, two massive book shelves behind you. a little fridge for snacks. a mirror thats placed on top of it when you need to check your appearance quickly and efficiently.
your office is placed right next to your boss. dynamite. his office is a lot bigger than your own. you look over at him, hes very focused on whatever he is doing. you look back and sigh. exhausted. then you realise that everything in the building is clean and neat, done to as perfect as possible, exactly how pro-hero dynamite prefers it.
a couple of minutes later you see a tall figure at your door. you welcome him in, but he does not enter fully, stopping at the door frame. you rolled your eyes at his attempt to seem intimidating.
"you know, if you spent half the time working that you do rolling your eyes, we’d be the best damn firm in the country. explains why you failed to deliver the report to nighthide the other week."
you could feel a vein pop up on your forehead, although you dont lift you head from your laptop. "we are the best firm. you just like hearing yourself talk, sir."
He glared at you over the desk. “don’t ‘sir’ me like that.”
“then stop acting like one,” you muttered, crossing your legs and smirking when his jaw clenched.
It has been like this for the past 5 years working at his agency. your sarcasm against his temper, both secretly addicted to the spark it created.
when it was finally time to leave for the night, you began packing your bag, chugging whatever left you had in your cup of coffee, tossing it in the trash underneath your desk. changing out of your heels and into sneakers. you cant miss your train, or it would be long day for you. you put on your overcoat and headed towards the exit.
you stepped into the elevator, hoping you wouldnt run into your boss for the rest of the day as you dont think you could handle his attitude when it was almost 10pm. as the elevator doors were about to close, you heard a ring, then your boss walking inside.
"keep calm" you thought to yourself as you pressed the floor level.
"excited to leave, huh? ive never seen you leave the office so fast before." he snickered in your ear. you decided not to respond to his sarcasm.
you stared straight ahead, the hum of the elevator filling the silence between the two of you. the floor indicator blinked red, slowly reaching the floor level. you could feel his presence beside you, close enough that you could sense the faint heat radiating from him, the smell of burnt smoke and expensive cologne that always lingered around dynamite.
“didn’t realize you kept tabs on my departure times, sir.” you muttered finally, eyes fixed on the mirrored doors.
“don’t flatter yourself,” he said, voice low but biting. “just noticing you’re slacking.”
you scoffed back. “i stayed four hours past my shift. That’s not slacking, that’s borderline self-destruction.”
he folded his arms. “could’ve fooled me. you looked pretty comfortable back there, drinkin’ cold coffee and starin’ into space.”
you turned your head then, meeting his eyes. “you like criticizing, don’t you? makes you feel important.”
he smirked faintly. “i am important.”
“sure,” you said, deadpan. “to yourself.”
The elevator dinged softly, announcing reaching floor 0. you stepped outside as he clicked the floor below. his car parked down in the agency's parking lot.
“you’ve got a mouth on you,” was the last thing you heard from him before the elevator doors shut. you scoffed and began walking towards the exit. locking the building with keys, password, and finger print. you began fast walking towards the busstop, it was a 10 minute walk.
outside, the night air was cold, sharp against your skin. you exhaled slowly, your breath visible in the dark. the city lights blinked far below, and for the first time today you allowed yourself to relax though the echo of his voice, and the look in his eyes, lingered longer than you wanted to admit.
you pulled your shoulder bag further up on your shoulders and shoved your hands in your pocket. it starting to become chilly.
once you arrived at your place, you kicked your shoes off. tossing your bag on your chair, youre gonna carry the same things the next day anyways.
changing out of your skirt and dress shirt into a comfortable shirt and sweats. you quickly brushed your teeth and washed your face. once you rested on your bed, you were out like a light.
the morning after, you could barley hold yourself awake. the elevator doors slid open with the usual mechanical rings. you stepped inside balancing between the same folder from yesterday as you were going to finish the report on the latest villain that dynamite had gotten arrested. and a cup of coffee, your phone, and your bag.
you were really tired, but hoping that the caffeine and autopilot would carry you through the day.
the office was already alive when you arrived. the front ladies already on the phone with clients, the general office space filled with people making coffee, printing papers, chatting with their co-workers. of course, some trying their best to look busy.
you greeted the receptionists with a smile and made your way to your office.
as you stepped into dynamites office, as you sort of need to get to your own. you were stopped halfway.
dynamite was already there, of course he was.
he stood infront of your desk, flipping through your previous reports with a frown. his tie was perfectly knotted, his sleeves rolled up and his patience gone.
"you're fucking late"
you glanced at the clock on your desk. 06.59.
"im on time, sir" you said, putting your coffee and bag down. "on time isnt early." he shot your way back.
"neither is it late, sir" you replied smoothly, shrugging off your coat and scarf. switching shoes and taking a seat. "i have no problem with you making punctuality my biggest crime of the day"
he slammed the printed folder onto your desk, the one you had printed two days ago. "your biggest crime is this" he pointed at it, the same report you were doing yesterday, and the one you are supposed to finish by today.
"this being full of incomplete notes, what the fuck were doing last night?"
you clenched your jaw, "finishing the revisions you demanded today, actually."
he noticed quickly that there was no way around this pointless conversation. "it better be done by today, im handing tomorrow to the authorities and the hero commission board, the fucking event is coming up in december, and ill be demand if i wont as many wins to my name as possible until then."
"sir, i was supposed to hand it to you today either way." you said calmly.
for a second, he looked like he might explode. his jaw tightened, hands shoved deep into his pockets. then he exhaled sharply, muttering something like “unbelievable” under his breath before heading back toward his office.
the door slammed shut behind him, glass rattling slightly. you sighed and leaned back in your chair.
the Hero Commission Board: the people who tracked hero activity all year, counting arrests, rescue operations, and civilian approval, had everyone in every hero agency on edge lately. the top heroes would keep their rank, the middle ones would scramble to climb, and anyone at the bottom would risk losing their license altogether.
and when you happened to work for the #3 pro hero in japan, pressure wasn’t optional, it was oxygen. perhaps this was dynamites year to get promoted as him and his sidekicks have done an outstanding job the whole year around. thats because for the past 4 years, dynamite has been holding onto #3 place. last year he thought, he outdid himself, only to be slammed with the third title once again. this year it is more possible for him to get promoted, and therefore he is trying to get every single villain arrested, rescue as many civilians as possible. overworking himself and his sidekicks to the max.
by noon, you had finished your report on the latest villain that dynamite had scored. you left your office, walking over to where dynamite had been seated.
handing him the copied version of your report, keep the real one among your files.

you handed it over to dynamite.
bakugou flipped through the report in silence, his eyes scanning every line with that usual sharp, unforgiving precision. you waited, arms crossed, coffee mug in hand, ready to refill it.
when he finally set the binder down, there was a flicker of approval in his expression.
"this one is not actually shit." he said finally, leaning back in his chair.
you arched your brow curiously, "is that your way of giving a compliment, sir?"
he ignored the jab, already gathering a stack of other folders that you had filed this past week from his desk. "these are the last five im handing to the commission today. dont mess with anything while im gone"
"wouldnt dream of it, sir"
he shot you a look that siad he didnt believe a word before grabbing his coat and walking out of the office. the glass door rattled behind him, as usual.
by the time the clock hit 15:00. you had gone through some emails, replied under some social media posts, refilled your coffee twice, and nearly convinced yourself you might leave early for once.
that fantasy shattered when you got a notification on your phone, you quickly opened your news app.
"breaking news! pro hero dynamite defeats a low-level villain in shibuya, civilian damage is minimal. the incident lasted under thirty minutes, reports say dynamite might be the greatest hero in our generation!"
you pinched the bridge of your nose. "you've got to be kidding me"
sure enough, only half an hour later, dynamite walked back in. he was on his way to your office space. his hair is messier than usual, gloves scuffed, and a faint smell of smoke on him.
"youre back early" you said dryly, already knowing what was coming.
he dropped a new folder on your desk with a thud, "add this to the list as well."
"did you at least deliver the reports i had finished safely to the committee?"
"i sure did." he smiled faintly.
"sir, let me guess, minor villain, easy win. but somehow enough for another report? while i have more than a thousand emails i need to respond to?"
"exactly" he said, cracking his neck. "didnt even break a sweat." he said as he was slowly catching his breath.
you sighed deeply, dragging the papers towards you. "you know for someone who complains about paperwork, you sure love giving me more of it."
he paused at your doorway, glancing back just long enough for you to catch a faint smug curve of his mouth.
"maybe i just like watching you work. especially when the event is in two months." he said proudly, walking out. "make sure you finish this stupid report by today."
just like that, he sat back on his desk, crackling his fingers, glasses back on his face, and he began typing, probably responding to some emails. help you lift a little weight off of your chest, as his schedule is empty for the rest of the day.
you glanced over at your clock, 15:30.
"i can finish this by 16:30" you thought, muttering your breath as you opened a new document titled.
"dynamite’s Hero Agency Villain Report : Case #23744-DYNAMITE."
your clock blinked 16:28 when you finally saved the file, stretched your stiff neck, and hit the big print button. the whirring of the printer filled your office as you gathered the papers neatly into a binder.
you made your way back to his space. he was typing on his laptop, finalising an email. his usual focused scowl etched deep into his face. glasses perched on his nose.
you gently placed the binder on his desk. "done, sir." you said, sliding the report closer to him.
he glanced up, brows lifting, "that fast?"
"uhh, yes."
he flipped through the pages, that familiar silence filling the room, then he hummed low. quietly, he closed the file.
"not bad, y/n." he finally said.
you blinked, almost in disbelief. "wow. two compliments in one day? you feeling okay, sir?"
he rolled his eyes at you, "don't push it."
you smirked slightly.
the tension in the air eased just for a bit. he didnt look like he was one bad report away from exploding. he stood up, stretching his shoulders. then he glanced at you.
"you want coffee?"
you titled your head, "you? offering to make me coffee?"
"dont get used to it."
you followed him into the break room, with your pink mug in your hand. empty now except for the low hum of the refrigerators. most employees are some minutes away from finishing their shifts.
"how do you like your coffee?" he asked without looking at you, making his own mug first.
"black, two sugar packs." you automatically said.
"huh, figured."
"you remember that?"
he gave a small smile. "you have been here for five damn years, kinda hard not to."
you leaned against the counter after you handed him your mug. shoulders relaxed, for the first time this whole week. you dont have much work.
"you actually have a heart under your massive ego, huh?"
he slid your mug towards you, "dont spread the rumours."
you laughed softly, before taking a sip. for a minute, the weights of the emails, reports, meetings and deadlines had loosened its grip.
by 18:00. you and dynamite were the only left in the building. calmly on your own responding to emails in your respective offices. when you finally stood up and stretched, changing your shoes, ready to call it a day. dynamite was already at the door, keys in hand.
"you heading home?" he asked you.
"yes." you said as you planted your scarf around your neck, coat on, and bag on your shoulder.
"how about yourself?" you asked.
you both exited as he locked the doors, making your ways to the elevator.
you pressed the floor level. while he pressed the floor below the ground. "yeah, thought id-" he hesitated for a second. then continued. "give you a ride. you have been staying late for weeks. figured you could use a break."
you paused, almost surprised. "you noticed?"
he looked away from you as the elevator was making its way to the bottom of the building.
"im not blind."
you smiled, shaking your head. "ill pass, sir. i dont live far and i love listening to music on the bus."
for a second, you thought you saw the tiniest flicker of disappointment on his face. before he masked it with that usual gruff indifference.
"whatever, suit yourself."
"goodnight, sir" you said exiting the elevator.
he grunted, turning towards the elevator.
as you locked the building and began walking to the your stop. he was on his way to his apartment.
his personal space was dark and quiet, a sharp contrast to his agency.
his agency was big glass doors, light colours, white office chairs, white cutlery, bright lights.
while his apartment was mainly concrete, blacks, navy blues, grays and green filled his space. he dropped his keys on the counter, taking off his jacket and took a seat into a chair near his large windows. the lights below were glowing, and he let himself take a breathe.
bakugou katsuki hates paper work, hates meetings, hates the hero committee constant breathing down his neck. but lately it was not the hero work that got to him, but rather it was you.
the way your voice lingered in the air after hours, the way your sarcasm made him feel less alone.
he shook it off, muttering under his breath as he stood up, ate something, showered, and crashed into his bed.
meanwhile you were home too. hair still damp from your shower. laptop open beside you as you scrolled through tomorrow's schedule. the meeting with the hero committee was set for 09.00. dynamite would be in his worst mood before noon, as always.
you closed your laptop.
the next morning, the agency was buzzing again. secretaries writing down numbers and names. the chefs cooking up lunch for everyone. team leaders bowing down when seeing you and heading over to their team. whether it is the PR team, marketing team, merchandise team, call standby employees and even the call standby for emergencies.
it was safe to say that the meeting had everyone on the seat. dynamite, his lead secretary, dynamite's main sidekick, along with the all the team leaders will be attending this meeting.
you arrived greeting everyone with your bag on your shoulders and a sandwich and coffee in your hands.
"good morning y/n!!" kirishima greeted you with his usual sunshine grin from across the hallway while you were on your way to your office. leaning casually on the doorframe of dynamite's office.
"morning eijiro!" you said smiling back. "you ready for the meeting?"
"i am as ready as you can be, were gonna make sure dynamite become the #1 hero in all of japan!" he exclaimed excitedly.
you smiled at his enthusiasm.
however the peaceful moment didnt last much longer before your boss entered his office to you and kirishima standing close to the doorway.
"morning, bakugou!!" nobody could call dynamite by even his last name, except for his best friend since U.A
"what on earth are you two doing here?" he asked roughly, taking his jacket off and placing his papers on his desk.
"we are just chatting." kirishima explained back, rubbing the back of his neck.
"well, you two are now done talking, we will meet in two hours to talk alot more. so you better be fucking prepared." he shot back, with an angry tone. clearly this meeting had him stressed.
"uh. y-yes as you wish!" kirishima said with enthusiasm. "see you during lunch y/n!" he said as he exited the office.
"huh? since when do you have lunch outside the office?" he snapped back at you, you rolled your eyes at his tone, as you stepped inside your office. "eijirou asked me to go with him to the nearby brunch place and i agreed." you said taking your scarf and jacket off.
"right." he said, as he took a seat and began replaying to more emails.
at this point a whole hour had passed and the time read 08.02. the hero committee were arriving in 58 minutes.
"y/n!" dynamite shouted at you, you sighed, stepping out of your office and into his space.
"yes sir?" you asked.
"go around and have a word with each team leader, and make sure they are all prepared for the fucking meeting, that includes everything from greeting, to how they introduce themselves and what to say during the meeting. this has to go as perfect as possible. im counting on you." he shot back, a serious look in his eyes.
"uh, yes sir." you said, slowly making your way outside.
"here take this. a sticky note i made with all the key words you need to go with them." he said, hurrying over to you and handing you the note. catching a wiff of your shampoo.
"alright, ill be back."
the hero committee arrived right on time. 08.58. their cars parked outside the agency nicely. you were already stacking your papers neatly, sticky note in hand, checking in with each team leader, making sure theyre ready and giving words of encouragement.
everyone seemed tense, but the brief words of encouragement you gave, along with the reminders from dynamite’s note, had them calm and organised.
at 09:00 sharp, the committee filed into the main conference room. dynamite took his seat at the head of the table, posture rigid, jaw set, but his eyes flickered toward you with a brief nod that said ‘good job.’ for arranging this very well.
everyone had taken their seats, notepads and pens ready.
the meeting began. each team leader presented themselves along with their stats, achievements, and projections. dynamite occasionally interjected with precise corrections or additions. when he spoke, everyone listened, his reputation and intensity demanded it.
and almost by 09:45, the committee seemed impressed by dynamites work for the year. notes were taken, questions answered with clarity both from your side, and eijirous side as well being dyanmite's sidekick. your organized files and the way you had prepped the team allowed dynamite to look exceptionally competent, more competent than he already was, thanks to you of course.
at 10:15, the committee had decided to wrap up. they left the room with polite nods, handshakes, and murmurs of approval. once the door closed, dynamite finally leaned back, a genuine smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth, for the first time in many weeks.
of course a couple slipups happened here and there, but it was nothing major.
“well,” he said quietly, only for you to hear, “that went better than i expected. thank you for your exceptional work."
you allowed yourself a small smile. “you did all the heavy lifting, sir. i just made sure everyone knew what to say.”
he gave your response a short laugh. “don’t sell yourself short. you kept them in line. i noticed that, it is only thanks to you in went exceptionally well.”
a comfortable silence fell between the two of you for a moment, before dynamite asked. "y/n, i- was just wondering."
just then kirishima buzzing with energy, approached you. "wanna grab lunch now? we can take my car to save time!"
dynamite crossed his arms "going out?"
"yeah," you said, "lunch with eijirou, as i said before."
for a second, you thought you saw a flicker of disappointment in his eyes, but it vanished almost immediately under his usual gruff mask. “right. enjoy then,” he muttered, shrugging, before disappearing back into his office.
as you and kirishima made your ways to his car, dynamite had noticed your choice. he would never admit it, but the smallest twinge of something stirred in him. he then simply made his way back to his office.
brunch with eijirou was fun, sunlight streaming in through the inside of the restaurant, the smell of coffee and salads filling the air. kirishima talked excitedly about hero news, alongside the exciting upcoming annual december hero event.
"are you going to take anyone with you to the event?" you asked excitedly as he began blushing.
"yeah just an old friend from middle school..." he said shyly.
"hahhh??? no way they are just a friend. tell me more eijirou, please!" you plead with an innocent look.
he sighed and asked you to not speak about this to anyone. you agreed of course.
"well..it is true that she is an old friend from middle school, we also went to U.A together in the same class. ive liked her for so long. she is the reason why im still here today. when i asked her to go, i was so nervous but the smile on her face made everything alright." he spoke about this mystery woman as he looked outside the window.
"woooahhh.." you trailed off, mouth slightly open and blushing. "must be nice to be in love with someone."
"im sure if i introduced her to you, you guys would click immediately." he exclaimed excitedly.
"of course, always down to meet new friends, im just never really...you know.. available.."
"dont worry i get it. but you guys will for sure meet during the event."
the next three days blurred together. more minor villain cases, meetings with side heroes, endless emails, and more coffee than your body could process.
seven new files sat on your desk by the end of day three, each demanding careful attention for submission. your eyes ached from staring at spreadsheets, notes, and photos.
it was the last day of the week, friday. and by the end of it, you had finished endless reports, that you carefully placed on dynamites desk. as you stepped back into your office, you caught a glimpse of yourself in your desk mirror.
"i look so dehydrated." you thought.
you drank whatever water left you had in your bottle, running your fingers through your hair to comb it, applying some lip balm to your dry lips.
dynamite stepped into his office after a bathroom break, seeing you all ready and prepped to leave. scarf wrapping around you, and you were slightly shivering underneath your coat.
"alright, 7 more files to go. im sure they will be even more satisfied with this. good work, y/n" dynamite said, putting his coat on, and carrying the binders in his arm.
"i think ill just go ahead and drop these off right now. and you have been at it non-stop, would you like a ride home tonight?."
you paused, feeling the exhaustion seep into your bones. “uh… yeah, i guess that would help.”
his brow furrowed, but he didn’t argue. “alright then."
for the first time in days, you allowed yourself to lean a little on someone else’s shoulders, the weight of the past week settling just enough to feel human again.
the elevator hummed as you both stepped inside, shoulder bag slung over one arm. dynamite followed behind, the stack of folders in his hands threatening to topple.
“careful with that,” you muttered, eyeing the precarious pile that you put your sweat, blood and tears into.
“relax,” he grunted, adjusting the stack. “i’ve carried heavier things than you on a daily basis.”
“sure, sure,” you said dryly, leaning against the mirrored wall. the faint reflection showed him in sharp focus, his tie is loosened, sleeves rolled up, jaw tight.
the elevator jolted slightly as it started descending.
“thank you for offering me a ride,” you said, barley even able to hold a smile.
he gave a sharp exhale, gripping the folders tighter. “well, don’t enjoy it too much.”
a beat of silence, then a sharp thunk. one of the folders slipped, papers spilling onto the floor of the elevator.
“goddammit!” he cursed, kneeling to gather them.
you sighed and crouched beside him, helping sort the mess. “you really don’t want me to drive you insane today, dont you?” you snapped sharply at him.
he sighed loudly.
by the time the elevator doors opened, the night was quiet, the parking lot almost empty. dynamite strode to his car, unlocking it with a key.
he held the passenger door open for you. you slid inside, settling into the seat as he climbed beside you. the engine started, low and smooth.
he adjusted the stack on you like it was the most natural thing to do. “alright then, first, we drop these off at the hero commission office. they’ll want to scan them immediately.”
you nodded, leaning back in your seat. “sounds like a fun job.”
the drive was quiet, the city lights painting the streets in streaks of orange and white. once you arrived, he parked in the visitor lot. the crisp night air nipped at your cheeks as you stepped out.
“don’t just stand there,” he barked lightly, carrying the folders to the entrance. you followed, slipping inside the mostly empty lobby.
he placed the binders carefully on the counter, handing them over to the attendant. “seven files, full of reports. all signed and stamped. they’re due tomorrow, so don’t fucking lose them.”
"always nasty with his words" you thought.
the attendant nodded, taking the papers and filing them away. dynamite let out a long exhale, wiping his forehead.
once the process was over, you both returned to the car. once again the ride to your home was very quiet.
“you’ve been working yourself too hard this week,” he finally said, glancing at you briefly. “if I didn’t know better, i’d say you’re about to collapse from exhaustion.”
you let out a tired laugh. “im fine really.. mostly. just… a little dehydrated.”
“you look it,” he muttered, voice low. “drink more water and take care of yourself, y/n.”
you smiled faintly, reaching for your bag. “what is that supposed to mean?”
the car slowed as you pulled up in front of your building. “here we are. take care of yourself as i said.”
“i’ll try,” you murmured, feeling the week’s weight finally settle off your shoulders.
he nodded, as you stepped out the car. scarf tightening around your neck. "goodnight, sir."
the week after, you decided to wear something more fun to the office.
a pair of navy blue suit trousers, rather than your usual black. alongside an dark red neckscarf and some dark red polished nails. rather than your usual old white shirt.
hair more done, and you even bothered to apply some perfume.
you stepped into the familiar building. as always, full of life, smiles and chattering. sounds of typing on computers, sounds of papers getting printed.
once you reached your desk, you took a seat and slowly rubbed your temple. bakugou soon after you appeared in the doorway, storming over to his chair, taking off his jacket and taking a seat. starting his day with a chug of a homemade looking smoothie.
you stepped out of your office with a thought on your mind.
"hmmm..." you began, "sir, eijirou mentioned this girl to me before. do you know who she is. she has been on my mind since he brought her up." you asked him, attempting some sort of conversation, but also you were curious.
dynamite's scowl deepened. as if he recalled some memories. his tone as sharp as over. "yeah...i might know who she is."
"oh! please do tell who she is. eijirou said that if we met we wouldve definitely been friends." you said curiously.
"yeah i can see that honestly. its pro-hero pinky, Mina Ashido. she works at Pro-hero Le million's hero agency as a sidekick."
"Mina Ashido?" you repeated, letting her name roll around your mouth for abit.
"the pro hero..with pink hair, acid quirk..crazy energy? that Mina Ashido, Pinky?"
"yes." he said, his gaze never once lifting from his screen.
"uhh another thing sir...please dont tell eijirou that i told you this, he said that this should stay between me and him."
"its whatever, i already know about them. but thats fine with me if you get the fuck back to your work."
"y-yes sir!"
later that day, you have been so busy with meetings with different team leaders here and there. one with their issues, another one who needed you to forward a request for firing an employee and another for some video leaks of pro-hero dynamite.
your day had been so busy so far and its only 14:00.
soon after you get called to dynamites office.
"you called sir?" you rushed to his office. standing in front of it, taking a deep breath after the fast paced walk to his office.
"y/n." bakugou started, a voice low and sharp, eyes fixed on you as if reading the fatigue you didnt bother hiding. "pro hero shouto is coming over by himself for a short meeting. the meeting is about a potential collaboration on a high-risk villain."
you blinked. "interesting..thats a big move, sir. pro-hero shouto is currently ranked right below you at #4. and yourself is #3 that could be huge for you.."
"sir, may i ask what is the name of the villain?" you cleared your throat as you asked.
bakugou look at you, "the name is blazebreak."
your eyes widened, "blazebreak?!" you exclaimed. "oh my god, thats insane. that villain is a no joke, pro heros have been after him for multiple months."
"you think i dont know that?" he scoffed and looked outside the window.
"if you collaborate it will a game changer when it comes to the voting." you exclaimed excitedly.
bakugou blinked at you softly. "...you actually sound fucking excited. the hell is wrong with you?"
"of course i am." you said, leaning on his desk. "i mean this is huge. a villain like blazebreak..? a case like that could make or break a hero's stats, especially since old gen pro heros were already after him for many months."
"is that right?" he raised an eyebrow at your enthusiasm.
"lets be real. you both got this. and a collaboration with pro-hero shouto? that would be insane if executed right!"
dynamite's jaw flexed. "yeah yeah..hype it all you want. but i am handling this shit solo. nobody is fucking touching my win."
silence fell into the office.
he continued, "especially when that half n half bastard is so close to me in the rankings i cannot risk it."
your smile disappeared, but still understanding his situation. "of course, sir. you always have to do it your way."
he didnt look too impressed by that statement. "yeah, exactly, and im not sending my team to him. ill handle this meeting with myself and you and kirishima. ill drill it in his head that its better for me to do it alone, dont give a fuck how difficult it is."
sighing, defeated. you raised an eyebrow. "really? you think catching a dangerous villain alone is better than a collaboration?"
"i know it is" he snapped back. leaning in his leather chair, "if i get this win solo, ill control the win, credits and my stats increase and stay perfect. you know how those fuckers measure shit over there."
"fair enough..but sir. you must know that this villain. hes not only dangerous, he is smart, strategic. and you would have advantage if shouto helped."
dynamite's jaw clenched, but before he could respond, the glass door of his office opened with a soft smile on the other side. shouto todoroki stepped in with his usual calm demeanour. his sidekick and his secretary following behind swiftly.
bakugous glare sharpened instantly.
"dynamite" todoroki said, voice polite, "i have already informed you about the joint operation."
bakugou’s arms crossed over his chest, the stack of reports on his desk suddenly rigid beneath his fingers. “i’ll be handling this solo." he stated calmly.
"i dont need help. i can handle blazebreak or whatever the fuck it was myself." he continued.
shouto's eyes narrowed slightly. "bakugou, you're being stubborn. this isnt about your own pride and rankings. its about the safety of the civilians. think logically, please."
"i am logical, this is better either way. both for my rankings and for how i want this catch to go. if i do it myself, i can guarantee a clean win, my way. no distractions, no discussions and no slowdowns."
shouto tilted his head. "you are underestimating what a great collaboration like this can achieve for the better of everyone. you cannot predict anything, meaning you cannot predict a clean win by yourself, no matter how confident you may be."
dynamite leaned forward. "i dont need you predicting anything. this is my case."
as shouto's secretary was about to speak up, he quickly silenced her with a quick hand gesture. shoutos gaze softened for a moment as he glanced between you and bakugou. "very well." he said quietly. a smirk forming on his face. "may the best hero win, then."
"i know thats fucking right." bakugou huffed.
as shouto escorted his sidekick and secretary outside. he thenturned slightly, his calm and collected eyes finding yours. "i have to say...y/n, seeing your workplace, how organised you are, how well you keep the teams in clean orders, you are the reason he succeeds as much as he does. dont underestimate yourself."
you blinked, surprised by the praise. "thank you pro-hero shouto! i just do my job."
bakugou stiffened. his jaw tightening. shouto smirked. "calm down, im only stating the truth."
you laughed softly. while bakugou seemed to be getting worked up by his words.
"alright, todoroki, its time for you to fucking leave the building." bakugou stated harshly.
"one last try...are you sure? i mean, two great pro-heros working together, is better than one, after all." shouto said with a smug smirk on his face.
"get the fuck out before i escort you myself through the fucking window."
"alright, remember bakugou, blazebreak isnt someone you take lightly."
bakugou tched. as shouto left the premises.
the clock finally ticked 18:00 signalling that it was time to head home for the day. the elevator doors almost slid shut, but then your boss had to once again stop it. you moved to the side making more space for him. you let out a long breath.
"oi..what the fuck was that earlier?"
you blinked, bakugous arms were closed. his sharp eyes glaring at you. you could smell his cologne from how close he was to you, even thought you had moved to make space for his wide frame.
“what do you mean?” you asked innocently, keeping your gaze on the blinking floor numbers.
“that little… flirting with Shouto before.” his jaw twitched. “don’t give me that ‘just doing my job’ bullshit.”
you let out a soft laugh, smirking. “sir… i wasn’t flirting. calm down, you’re imagining things.”
“imagining things, yeah right..” he scoffed loudly, voice echoing in the small elevator. “ i saw his damn smirk, and the way you leaned in when he complimented you"
you shrugged casually, growing more frustrated with his attitude. tugging your scarf a little higher. “seriously… you’re overreacting. you know I keep my focus on work"
his glare deepened, but before he could argue further, he pressed the button to the below floor. “…alright, fine. forget it." his voice softened, just slightly.
there was a pause. then, after a long breath, bakugou muttered, “…you want me to drive you home again or something? could perhaps save you the bus.”
you shook your head immediately. “no thank you, sir, i like the bus. it’s my me-time and music time."
his jaw tightened, and for a moment, you thought he might say something else, although he didn’t. “…alright then,” he muttered, a faint growl in his voice, and looked away.
by next week you continued with the same routine, except for the past 5 working days, you, eijirou and your boss have been plotting and planning on a catch on blazebreak.
you arrived pretty early the following morning. you, dynamite and kirishima huddled closely a quiet corner in bakugous office. screens glowing with files and tabs on each of your computers on blazebreak. the villian's profile was very detailed, from past crimes to patterns, to interactions and reports from previous heros.
this week has truly been brutal.
bakugou stood up, palms flat on his desk, his moving fast between screens and articles. his voice breaking through the silence, sharp and commanding.
"so" he started, tapping his fingers hard against a map of the city. specifically closer to shibuya. "if that fucker is smart, and i know that he is, he will bait us somewhere he can control the chaos. most likely open streets, like some of the main popular ones like shibuya."
kirishima leaned forward, red eyes falling into the map, alongside the notes he had taken.
"we could block off those two exists" he said, drawing circles around. "that way we can force him into the side alleys. the ones i scouted yesterday. theyre narrow, low visibility. i can harden and take the front of he decides to detonate anything." kirishima stated, his gentle smile replaced with a serious frown.
you scrolled through your notes.
"if he tried anything unpredictable. we have a pattern to reference. for example, his quirk is combust pressure. it builds up charge before release. like the villian you fought weeks ago, sir. id think this is the final boss. once again blazebreak cant detonate continuously. he has about ten-second cooldown between each major blast."
bakugous crimson eyes flicked up. he looked very impressed.
"finally, some efficiency." he said, "from the two of you." he said, sort of in a sarcastic tone. earning a disappointed laugh from eijirou.
you exhaled, crossing your arms. thank you, sir. we do try." you said, voice laced with irony. bakugou rolled his eyes.
kirishima chuckled. "hey, we make a killer team. katsuki fights, i punch, and she predicts. easy."
bakugou rolled his eyes, giving kirishima a small smile. "you make it sound like we are playing a game over here. are we gonna act like this bastard already killed four heros in the past two months?"
the tension in the office thickened. you swallowed hard, tapping your pen against your notebook nervously.
"and the hero committee is watching every second of this." you added, "the rankings are closing in 6 weeks."
bakugou's gaze sharpened. "then we make it count."
and just across the city. the mood could have been more different.
in a quiet, high-tech room glowing with blue screens. shouto todoroki stood at the head of his teams table. calm and composed.
"we should always prioritise civillian safety. as long as we ensure an efficient arrest." shouto stated calmly. "blazebreak thrives in chaos. he will expect us to divide our focus but we wont."
his second-in-command. a young hero named frostbyte. adjusted his headset.
"his explosions radius avarages around twenty meters. if we can isolate him to a confined area, we can neutralise this attacks faster."
todoroki nodded.
"good work. now coordinate with the municipal response team. i want crowd dispersal by 06.00. if dynamites agency intervenes-" he paused slightly. "we have no choice but to stay out of their way until he compromises the field for both teams. then we step in."
frostbyte raised a brow. "sir, you do sound like you've got something to prove."
a faint smirk ghosted across todorokis lips.
"just keeping the competition honest."
by the time it was the day of the operation. the air was heavy with humidity and static. tension rolling through the city.
crowds had been cleared. police barricades glowed red and blue. overhead, drones buzzed, broadcasting live to every major news outlet.
you stood near the command van, headset pressed to your ear. monitoring both dynamites frequency and the commissions channel.
kirishima's voice crackled through the line. cheerful but serious.
"we have got some visuals. east corner, near the construction site."
bakugous voice followed. low and steady.
"good keep it tight. no civillians near the area either. we do this clean."
then came the explosion.
a building's yellow lights tore through the concrete. scattering dust and metal like it was confetti. the villian emerged from the smoke. laughing through his teeth, hands blazing vermillion red.
"you think you can cage me? dynamite!!" he shouted.
bakugou stepped forward, cracking his gloves. the reinforced plating on his hero suit glinting.
"you know i did my research on you, but i didnt know you had a loud mouth on you."
dynamite rocketed forward, explosions lighting the ground beneath him. the upgraded suit dempening the recoil. kirishima flanked right. blocking off the villians escape with a hardened wall of concrete.
you shouted through bakugous microphone. "hes charging up another blast. front arm, left side. three seconds!"
bakugou pivoted mid-air. dodging the attack right before it hit him.
kirishima gritted his teeth.
"he is actually pretty tough"
"no fucking shit." bakugou yelled. snipping into a counterstrike, palms igniting with precise detonations that redirected blazebreaks fireball back toward him.
that resulting explosions painted the night in red and gold. bakugou hit the ground hard, rolling into a crouch. smoke rising from his arms.
todorokis team arrived moments later, controlled and flawless. like a synchronised machine. ice caved clean paths through the rubble as shouto froze collapsing building mid-fall.
"nice timing." todoroki called out. his tone is almost teasing.
bakugou scowled. "didnt need backup."
"clearly." todoroki replied, sending a blast of fire toward blazebreaks's side to cut off his escape route. "youre bleeding through your gauntlets."
"mind your damn business!" bakugou snapped at shouto.
kirishima lunged in witha solid punch. and bakugou followed up quickly, detonating one final blast that sent blazebreak flying into a containment net. the villian hit the ground, unconscious.
quiet.
the crowed, you, the camera, the committee.
soon you heard cheering.
kirishima smiled softly. hands on his knees.
"hey! we did it."
dynamite grinned. his chest is heaving. sweat beads forming at his temple.
"yeah.."
you smiled faintly from the command van, pride bubbling quietly in your chest.
police already at the scene, waiting for the pro-heros to finish their jobs to preform an arrest on blazebreak. multiple cars pulled over and multiple police men rushed to the scene capturing blazebreak in a quirk-free net he couldnt get out of.
pushing him into the car and driving off with the villain.
across the rubble, todoroki's calm gaze lingered on bakugou. he gave a small respectful nod.
"good work, dynamite, redriot."
bakugou grinned, then looked away scoffing.
"dont need your validation, icy-hot. but thank you i suppose is appropriate to say."
kirishima laughed, under his breath. "man-" but his words were cut off when bakugou stumbled.
the colours drained from his face as his knees buckled.
"katsuki?.." kirishimas voice cracked as he lunged forward catching him before he hit the ground entirely. bakugous head tilted to the side.
you froze. headset slipping off. the world went muffled around you.
bakugou lay limp against the debris, unconscious, the faint smell of smoke and iron in the air.
kirishima’s voice rang out over the comms, raw with panic.
"hes down! somebody get a medic! NOW!"
the cameras of course kept rolling. of course they did.
bakugou wouldve hit the ground hard if kirishima didnt catch him.
his vision swimming and chest tightening. he sounded like he was struggling to breath.
panic erupted around him as coworkers rushed forward. someone quickly called an ambulance immediately while you rushed over to the scene.
at the hospital, the doctors quickly assessed him. the sudden collapse had been caused by a ruptured spleen from an internal bleed, complicated by a minor heart arrhythmia triggered by exhaustion and stress.
they prepped him for surgery immediately. the surgeons made a careful incision in his left abdomen, stopping the internal bleeding and removing damaged tissue.
tubes and drains were placed to manage fluid accumulation, and he was stabilized in the ICU.
multiple days has passed at this point where he was unconscious. his sidekick, eijirou kirishima had taken over his agency for the past couple of days while he recovers.
the doctors and surgeons had informed you that his case wasnt dangerous and he should be on his feet again in maximum two weeks.
meanwhile, you had been visiting everyday since the incident. checking up on him just in case he wakes up. so he wont be alone.
everytime you arrive there are new flowers, fruits, and clothes. most of them are signed by the names. "mitsuki and masaru" you assumed they were his parents.
todays routine was no different. after your shift, you headed to the hospital to visit bakugou.
kirishima wouldve usually joined you, but he has been extremely overstimulated by the amount of sudden shift of work on him right now and needs a rest.
today wouldve marked the 6th day he fell unconscious. you headed over as usual, the nurses and the front ladies know you at this point. you made your way to his room with a bouquet of flowers in your hands.
you entered. same state. a quiet hospital room. minimal decorations, white curtains that hover over a large window. being on the top floor.
bakugou laying in his bed. a heart monitor beeping next to him softly. everything seems in place, just that he hasnt woken up yet.
you gently place the flowers on a table. and make your way to him, you take a deep look at him.
"he is georgous." sharp jawline, long golden eyelashes that lay gently on his warm olive skin. a stubble growing at his chin and his upper lip. soft plump lips, and a nice sloped nose.
you feel him for a second, his body still warm, you smile and leave the room.
three days pass by. your job is still the same, write reports, help co-workers and respond to email. alongside answering questions about your boss's state.
and as usual you head to the hospital he is staying at after your shift.
as you enter, you look around, everything is still placed exactly in the same place as you had seen it three days ago, and a week ago.
you walk up to him and sit beside him for a moment. you decide to catch him on his agency.
"i know you arent awake yet, and i wish you were. having kirishima as a boss and working closely with him is fun. but he is feeling overstimulated by all the work being suddenly dumped on him." you sigh between sentences, continuing to vent to him. "i guess nobody can do your job better than you." you smile.
"damn right." he says slowly, his eyes fluttering open. the first thing seeing is your ansxious face hovering over his, mouth agape.
"y/n, are you okay?" he asks gently.
"am i okay?, are you okay? when did you wake up.." you asked confused.
"i am okay, why are you so worried."
you take his hand to feel him, and squeeze it slightly. "b-because youre boss." you say shakily, eyes beginning to water.
"if you had considered me just your boss, you wouldnt be crying your ass off like this." a faint smirk tugging at his lips, despite the pain and tubes.
"fine. i consider you more off of a friend..sir."
"drop the sir shit." he says firmly, looking away from your face.
"uh-okay dynamite." you say as you wipe away your tears, despite new streams rolling down.
"katsuki."
you look up quickly at him. "hah? sir, youre giving me first name privileges??"
"what if i am." he looks back at you, now squeezing your hand gently.
"why, sir."
he sighs before saying. "i am quite interested in you. maybe you would care to give me a chance to get to know, what you like."
your heart was racing, you look down, go deep into thought. you havent really felt for him in that way. however, he is quite handsome. so you decided to give it a chance, see where it could go.
you nodded. "i am willing to give this a shot." smiling. you couldnt believe you are giving the katsuki bakugou a shot.
bakugou blinked, a mix of suprise and something softer in his eyes. "you really mean that."
"i do" you said gently.
a genuine smile spread across his face. "then yeah. we could see where this goes."
