Day 10: Women in Arya’s life

Catelyn Stark: Catelyn was a loving mother who loved all her children. She loved Arya. But unfortunately Catelyn was a product of her society and she expected Arya to be a prim, proper lady like Sansa.  And because Arya was a non-conforming woman, Catelyn favored Sansa. Arya sometimes felt that her mother didn’t want her. But despite being against Arya’s interests that are tomboyish, Catelyn does love her. In fact as Lady Stoneheart she is determined to find her.

Sansa Stark: Sansa was, to put it lightly, an absolutely horrible and nasty sister to Arya.  Sure, Sansa wasn’t as evil or cruel as Cersei to Tyrion, Gregor to Sandor,  and Euron to his siblings, but Sansa was a nasty bully to Arya. She and her friends bullied Arya and called her ”horseface”, called her ugly, and made her feel terrible about herself. This took a toll on Arya’s self-esteem as she doesn’t believe it when people call her pretty. Sansa also cruelly taunted Arya about Mycha’s death and when Arya retaliates by throwing an orange at her, Sansa shrieks that they should have killed Arya instead of Lady. Sansa was just a horrible sister and bully to Arya.  Hopefully when/if they reunite Arya no longer puts up with Sansa’s bullshit.

Lyanna Stark: Despite Aunt Lyanna being dead, and thus never meeting her, she still has an impact on Arya’s life. Arya is said to look so much like Lyanna. Like Lyanna Arya was tomboyish but loved flowers and other feminine things. They both made friends with all kinds of people regardless of their social status. And like Lya, Arya doesn’t stand for injustice done to innocent people. Lyanna is basically Arya’s predecessor.

Lady Smallwood: Lady Smallwood might just be the best of the adult females Arya has met. Although she does have Arya put on a dress, when Arya rips it, Lady Smallwood is not at all angry. She tells Arya that she is pretty and advises her to be brave. She even gives Arya her son’s clothes. Lady Smallwood is probably the first female adult who encourages Arya to be herself and tells her that she is a beautiful person.

Fuck him, and the people who think that disgusting ship is romantic. That ship is only romantic if you compare it to Drogo x Dany.
