I suddenly would love to read a fic in which Sharon is not hidding anything and she really is the next door nurse, introducing herself to Steve as Sharon Carter from the very beggining. Their love story would be more in the lines of being emotionally vulnerable, visiting Peggy, caring and cooking for her, and telling each other everything so we have exposition on Steve's mental state as he goes through the events in the movies.
No drama, she is just the friendly next door nurse who maybe helps Steve take care of Bucky after they find him (Because everyone knows brainwashed and conditioned Bucky living on his own with zero problems in Romania for two years is bullshit). Maybe this is illegal and they have to hide him from both Hydra and the FBI, so even as a normal woman Sharon retains her bravery.
I mean, I would have loved to have Captain America and Agent 13 as a team, Antman and the Wasp style, but if they were just going to give Nat Sharon's role in the Winter Soldier and they weren't smart enough to write two ladies kicking ass in the same film, tell me nurse!Sharon wouldn't also have worked to make Sharon something different and yet still important, like a breath of fresh air and normal life-simplicity to give Steve a break once in a while from his stressful superhero life. We could have had the hospital she works in be called something-13 as a nod to the comics lol. And considering I have seen many comic book Sharon stans say that a lot of movie Peggy's personality was taken from comics!Sharon, nurse!Sharon could have been a way softer version of Peggy in terms of personality (Sort of like when we first see her gently turning Steve down, I love that scene, so soft, so much potential lol), that way no one could say Steve was "confusing" Peggy with Sharon or trying to replace her. How could he, when they are completely different, in every sense of the word?
Maybe she was an army nurse for some time and that way we can have her being friends with Sam already, like in the comics, and a SHIELD nurse later for her to meet Nat (SHIELD must have a medical team, right?).
With Sharon as an actual nurse, even Steve retiring in the end could have been properly set up (Maybe his lifestyle has put a very much civilian Sharon in danger before) without the part where he abandons all his friends (AND Sharon).
Ok, that was a straight up prompt. If no one does, maybe I will have to write it in the future lol.
Also, although I do love this AU idea I just came up with, the lack of agent 13!Sharon would indeed cause some problems plotwise that would need fixing or adapting (Which just shows Sharon was not "just a love interest", not even in the movies).
