I'm seeing a lot of Neal hate in the spoiler tags and I wanted to put in my two cents.

I would LOVE to see some bby!Emma flashbacks. Flashbacks of Emma when she was in foster care, etc. I agree with the people who say that Emma is more than just a girl who dated Neal. This is true. HOWEVER, Neal Cassidy was a man who had an enormous impact on Emma's life.

Whether you ship Swanfire or not, you have to acknowledge, he is the father of her child, and he was her first love. Neal taught Emma how to love. He taught her what home was. He showed her what it felt like to be wanted. And yes, he left her. He showed her what a broken heart felt like.

He was important to her in both good ways and bad ways, and I'd love to see more flashbacks of their time together as well. I'd also love to see more of Neal's life beyond Emma. His time in Neverland. His ten years in the LWM before he met Emma.

The point is, while these characters are their own people and are not defined by each other, they do have a significance in each other's lives and to deny that is to be ignorant. You don't have to ship it, but you cannot deny that he was important to her and always will be.

Thoughts

OK, my thoughts about Neal. Not only is he trying to get back to Emma and Henry, he's trying to find out if his father is alive. He's willing to do just about anything to find his family. It seems he even goes against the Charmings. When he said he wasn't going to stop fighting for Emma, it seems he meant it. Neal even gives Hook his apartment number to give to Emma when a year ago (show time) they were fighting over her. That apartment, it seems, was kept as-is for a year or 2 even though no one lived there in that time - maybe to help jog Emma's memory, maybe for some other reasons, I don't know.  Neal is supposed to be Rumple's happy ending. How can he be that if he dies?  Does this really sound like a character who is going to be killed? Now, if you don't have anything nice to say, please refrain from saying anything. I am not getting into the shipping wars. Thank you.

So far, these are some obstacles haters think Swanfire has.

Nealmara. The haters thought "OH IT'S ENDGAME LOOK AT THE WAY HE SAID I NEED HER IT'S CANON AND NOW I CAN SHIP THIS AND MY OTHER SHIP!!!!!!!!!1" You know what happened to Nealmara? Well, you could always rewatch Heart of the Truest Believer for that answer.

Mufire. This one I didn't get mad as much because Neal was talking about how much he loved Emma to her basically every time they talked. So them being together made zero sense to me. Know what happened to where that ship got quieted down? Well, rewatch Quite a Common Fairy and you'll have your answer.

The CS kiss. I don't really like talking about this because I really don't like Hook as a person, but let's take it down into parts, shall we? First, Hook gave Charming the water. We all know that story. Go Hook, you actually did something meaningful! Then, after Charming decides to not tell his family that he didn't have the injury and just said that Hook saved his life, he assumes it means he's allowed to have Emma. Emma is not a possession. She is not yours to keep. She is a person, not some trophy to be won. And what, just five days ago he was willing to kill everyone in the town including Emma and now suddenly he's in love with her? Seriously? That writing and random add of a love triangle makes absolute zero sense to me. But, this isn't about the writing. He assumes he loves Emma and that they're in this big relationship, but they aren't. It's canon fact that Emma said that "it's been a while", meaning the last guy she's even kissed was Graham and that was quite some time ago. She saw Hook saying that he wanted to kiss her and thought 'what the hell, I could use a kiss'. And now Hook is taking that the wrong way. His thoughts on the matter were basically, "I saved your father! You should kiss me now!" in my opinion. Of course this is my opinion and your opinions are your own. I am not trying to disown those opinions. They are your opinions, I just wanted to state mine.

Neal saving Henry and losing him again. Okay, so Neal loves his son. That's pretty evident. He let go and went through the portal to die because he didn't want Henry to grow up the way he and Emma did. He probably still has no idea Henry was adopted. He thought that he and Emma were his only parents. He probably knew that Regina was the Evil Queen and that was it. Everyone thought someone had told him, but there was no screentime evidence of anyone telling him Henry was adopted. There is reason to believe he doesn't know he was adopted. Besides, he'd fight like hell to get his son back anyway, but he thinks that he and Emma are his parents and that's it. Hook is just being a distraction and not really helping from his perspective. He tries to hide his frustration from that so no one has to hear him whining and complaining. But sometimes when someone tries to aggravate the crap out of you, you eventually can't take it any more. He actually didn't punch him or yell at him once. All he did was fight about a lighter. But he apologized anyway. Twice. So what if he didn't tell them about getting Henry yet? He was probably planning on it, but he kept getting aggravated. It's hard to remember to do anything important when anyone's aggravated. He cares what happens to his son more than what he cares about himself. He's made some bad decisions before, of course, we all have. We're human. But what matters to him is his son, not trying to tell Emma "you have to choose between us." 

Tinkfire. Now Tinkfire exists, really? They are friends. When he was fourteen, he and Tink were friends. Probably a sibling figure or a mother figure to him. Or, you know, just a positive figure to him even when everyone and everything else in Neverland was likely dark to him. That is all. She was happy to see him because he was likely one of her only friends.

If I missed any points and you would like them stated, as long as you state they are your own opinion and aren't trying to hurt anyone else, you are more than welcome to add onto this. I will not be accepting any hate as I always do, so if you do want to send hate to me, then I suggest you "channel your anger" as Snow said to Aurora when she was angry with her. You see how much of a good person you could be if you don't hate on people? But alas, this is my post and it is open to interpretation as long as it is without hate.
